The lights hate me now.

I find that stopping my front tire on the seam of the circle or square sensor almost always triggers the light, as long as a good portion of the bike is directly over the seam. It...seems that the sensor wire follows the cutouts.

Once you learn which lights are like that you learn to avoid them.
I had one that the left turn didn't see me, but the straight thru cross
one would, I so learned to do a right turn, a U-turn, and sit on the sensor that
worked for my little (back then) bike.

Yeah I find this one very hard to believe.

It works. You probably don't have that problem with a ZX14, but on my 690 SMC it was sometimes needed, usually cause I didn't line up with the cutouts correctly.

I wish I had a ZX-14, however I would not be willing to give up my C-14 to get one.

Last time I got pulled over by a CHP I asked him about this.
If you know it's not registering then treat it like a stop sign.
He said even if an officer sees you they'll recognize what's going on.
He also rode bikes though so not sure if he was biased in his opinions..
Kept my dealer plate on for this reason.
No flashy red light cameras for me :teeth

Jump off the bike, hit the crosswalk button, get back on bike and wait for the green.

Also, report the defective light. They'll come out and adjust it if you say your motorcycle won't trip it.

That's what I do! Looks kinda funny running around hitting buttons but it works...

:laughing

Thanks for googling that for us. I was just about to ask if anyone has some inside info on the design of those sensors/wires. I always thought the sensor was in the middle of the cut which makes me nervous on the bike because that's where the most oil and grease is from cars. Hate stepping in it fearing I'll slip and fall over or having the tires roll through it and being nervous the tires are going to slip.

Where do you go to report the light? My quick (and lazy) Google search failed me.

This actually does work. I used to do it in another state on several lights that wouldn't trip unless I put the stand down.

I actually saw some guy on a Superhawk jump off and push the crosswalk button a couple of months ago, I laughed because I have done it before, but not for years :laughing If I need to I will run a light and explain myself later. These days the lights seem to work pretty well.

Brittany, Just make sure the intersection doesn't have the photo-ticket cameras. Otherwise after one light session, just run it when safe.

For left turns that won't switch, I usually just go straight and then flip a u-turn. If that isn't an option then you just run it!

Report the intersections to the local agency as noted above. Cite it as a safety issue both for when you're sitting out there with traffic flying around you and when you eventually run the light. They will fix it in a hurry. Offer to bring your bike down when the crew is there so they can make sure it works when they're done.

Sometimes, as in my case recently, they dial in full sensitivity on the electrics and call it good, only to find out later, when you go to use the light and complain again that the card is bad and it needs to be replaced.

I would wait a minimum of one cycle before running it though.
That being said, I would move yoru moto back and fourth on the sensor to try and get it to trip too. Forward and back a good 5-10 feet.

This... it is legal to roll through after a failed cycle.

Put your side stand down where the sensor is. Give the motor a little gas to create some vibration down the stand to the sensor.
Then kick stand back up...the light will probably change.
Works for me.
