The new Yamaha R7 looks *hot*

Wow, missed that it was a 2 cylinder. Not so great with only 2 cylinders. :(
I've never needed more than two and never owned a bike with more than two. I'm sure it's based on the same engine as used in the Tenere 700.

The MT-07 is a huge success around the world. I saw a video on YouTube claiming the bike has grossed over $800 million in sales for Yamaha. The Ténéré 700 is in high demand. The Tracer 700 is a hit in Europe. Smart move by Yamaha to expand the platform to a sport bike with minimal development cost compared to a true Supersport.

The MT-07s I've heard on the road sound great.

As for the previous R7, it was a very cool bike but also kind of a flop. You had to qualify to purchase a very expensive bike that was severely choked in stock form. IIRC, the R7 never won an AMA or WSBK championship. I loved watching Haga's spectacular style aboard the factory R7 in World Superbike but the bike wasn't a standout. It was just in the mix with the other Superbikes of that era.

Every earthly being would give their left nut for the previous R7

I think this current iteration is a fine motorcycle, I just think they should not have given it the R7 designation... :dunno

I'm guessing you've never ridden a VFR then.

VFRs are just...*sigh*...[looks longingly out to the horizon as the sun breaks through the clouds like beams of Heaven]...VFRs.

It does look nice. I'm just kinda bummed it's not an I-4.....or at least an I-3, if only for the sound.

But Yamaha says "Torquey CP2 Powerplant
Yamaha's proven 689cc liquid-cooled, inline 2-cylinder DOHC fuel-injected CP2 engine delivers excellent power and performance throughout the rpm range for an exhilarating ride and a true supersport experience. Its 270-degree crankshaft delivers linear torque for exciting acceleration and limited vibration."

"Torquey" They aren't gonna lie about something like that! Are they? And why aren't we seeing a Yamaha V4, at least on paper? Gear driven cams, too.....

I agree, cool paint job. But it's hardly fair to announce that bike right after I've put money down on a new motor.

I like the looks but down 43H.P. of the R6 I've lost interest.

The "new" R6 is pretty close to unobtainable...

I see the R6 is absent...

But not missing entirely...

The "R7" is not as "exciting" as made out to be. It's a warmed over MT07, really. Coming from a 400, it's going to be great. Coming from a 600, it's not going to be so great, IMO.

The Aprilia 660 is the one to move to from a 600...but still, much slower, etc. Great chassis however. It'll be interesting to see the R7 compete against the 660 and like every year; Yamaha will throw coin at their program and Aprilia will watch from the sidelines.

Not really. You just need to know the right people...and have them like you!

The closest I ever came to a Supersport was a TL1000s.

Replaced it with a dog slow DRZ400SM and far preferred it.

I wouldn't assume that at all. Do you know even know where you can get the non-street R6's we're talking about? If someone wants one, intros are easy to make. That's how the back end moto world works. Who you know....if someone truly wants a 2021 R6, ping me.

Of course what you know is equally important and in this case, a 2020 R6 is the same as the non-street version, so...that seems to be the ticket.

And the 2020 is one hell of a lot cheaper than the 2021

I would assume Attack has a line on those. Guessing.

True, R7 is a makeover fz07/mt07. Not much new since 2016? Forks and redesigned looks?

IMO, out of the box is no comparison to the Aprilia 660 performance or chassis wise. Still gonna have to put 8-10g's into the R7 to get near the 660 performance. Better have spare motors.

Exactly. I own an SV650 along with a few gixxers. I know of what I speak. At least the SV is a "V" and sounds like one (thank you, Yoshimura). I also have an EX500 (parallel twin like the new R7) and even with a tuned exhaust it still sounds like a UPS truck.

It doesnt sound like you do
