The Righteous Gemstones (TV show)

The series finale was good. The back half of this season got much more dramatic with the plot lines of all the various characters.

I laughed a lot more in this episode than I did in the last 3-4 (not that they were bad).

Wait are you talking about Black Mirror or Righteous Gemstones? I didn’t feel like they resolved anything!

I do hate how we are left as viewers doing this :dunno after every season on streaming networks.

Gemstones.

My thought train was that all of season 1 was typical Danny McBride and Adam Devine comedy. The first half of season 2 was the same, then it got really serious, relatively, in the 2nd half of season 2. But agreed that damnit, we need season 3 NOW. :teeth

Netflix has been marketing the shit out of this to me, but I have been resisting. I will try it, because John Goodman has never not been an interesting actor to me.

It's on HBO Max, not Netflix. That's why I was laughing.

To your point about not being a John Goodman fan, he's an important character in the show but I'd almost call him a supporting character? Maybe not the right word. What I'm trying to convey is that, if you said you didn't like Danny McBride then I would have just told you, "yeah don't even bother with this show". Goodman is the patriarch of the family but his children are the real main characters of the show.

But yes, when you get a chance, dig into it. I think you will like it.

I've been watching this lately. The Season 1 finale had me in tears. And I rarely laugh at programming. Of course, the GF isn't into it, so I have to pick and choose when I watch it.

Last night I banished her to her den to watch dumb english dramas on her laptop while I basked in the pseudo-religious glory that is the Gemstones.

My GF loves it, we watch one episode every night. We are about halfway through the second season. Despite some of the potty humor, it's actually pretty well written with lot's of clever little details.

So thanks OP:thumbup
Really enjoying it.
Also, thanks for the Raised by Wolves rec.

:laughing My bad, I can't keep track, I am pretty actively hostile to click on anything advertised to me directly, so they sort of run together across Netflix, Prime and HBO. I keep threatening to get a D+ account, so it may get even more muddled.

I really enjoyed this. Just finished season 2.

The first season was much more on the Drama side of Dramedy, not very funny, but a fascinating train wreck to watch that I couldn't look away from.

The 2nd season I like even better. They turned the absurdity up a notch to get more laughs, which totally worked, and John Goodman played a much more central character in Season 2, which allowed him to show off more of his dramatic acting chops that he unfortunately doesn't get to do very often when not playing baseball.

The new players add some missing depth and I see seeds for Season 3 challenges planted that I will certainly tune in on for resolution.

I recommend it. :thumbup

Yeah I'm really enjoying Gemstones so far. Excellent writing.

Unfortunately I think they’re all done and there will be no season 3. Frankly I’m amazed they got this season out. Several of the actors seem to be pretty busy with other shows and movies.

For sure. From what I have heard, due to your aforementioned schedule issues, it takes them like 2ish years to release a season, so we may be in for a wait, but looks like the funding is set aside to produce it anyway.

In the meantime, I think I have found I need to watch anything I can find with Cassidy Freeman in it. :love

Ahh yes, Jesse’s gun toting smoke show of a wife.

She was a series regular in Longmire on Netflix.

I'm a bit ashamed to admit I recognized the actress from her short stint on Vampire Diaries as Finn Mikaelson's long lost 900 year old girlfriend. Don't judge me. :x

I will now go watch that show, just because she is in it. I need to see that actress play something that is not utterly perfect, lol.

She’s only in it for 2 or 3 episodes. I can tell you which episodes though if interested.

I will call that show a guilty pleasure but the best part of the whole series are when the Original Vampires are around and their spinoff show that went 5 seasons is so much better.

Yeah, we have discussed The Originals before. I watched it first by accident and really enjoyed it, then switched to try VD and that thing was a fucking disaster.

Well if you want to see her in VD, Season 3, episodes 16-18. :teeth

But yes, as we've discussed before, Originals is really good. Klaus Mikaelson is one of the best vampire characters I've seen in modern times and I'm not biased because the actor, Joseph Morgan, share the same name.
