Those new R1200GS look kinda cool.....

Honestly, I forgot. I would have.

I think an RT would be perfect for me if I was doing long rides all the time, I certainly love all the gadgets and comfort features, but it's ENORMOUS and I have zero saddle experience on such bikes.

Plus i mostly commute and I want something smaller and nimble for lane splitting and such.

The girl I had over yesterday said "That's a huge bike" when she saw the 800...

It looks big but that's very deceiving. That was one of my reasons for never wanting something 'that big' until I took one out. Very well balanced and in the twisties I wiil say nimble. It's great for around town as well as long trips.

What Anthony said. I commuted in SD and LA with my RT. Zero issues with lane sharing.

one of the reasons i got rid of my r1200gs was the final drive. i could never fully trust that the bmw wouldn't leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere. i was solo most of the time in some fairly remote places, kind of wondering what next might fail on the bmw. nice machine, but the nagging doubt...

I love the new water boxer; however, I think most riders would be happier in the long run with the latest RT instead. It is not as sexy but I think it is a better bike.

Since I can only have one bike at a time I really dig the GS for the perceived durability aspect. I mean, I don't always need to drive over shitty roads or gravel but sometimes I do. I don't want a bike I'm worried about dinging up if i falls over. Mine has...it's fine.

Mine. I mean, a potentiometer went and they replaced that under warranty, but I've been literally hit by a car on this thing without going down or any damage, tipped over when manoeuvring, and done 30,000 miles....aside from the time it got hit by another motorcycle while parked (and it was still rideable, just beat up a little), it's been issue free.

I was hit on my RT. The bike slid on the engine head across the road. No major damage...was repaired and back to me in a couple weeks. They're durable as hell.

Just make sure if you get an FJR you don't get one of the suicidal ones that tries to kill itself for being so shitty...
