I've had a few dirtbikes over the years. 1988 CR250, 2001 Husky 420, 2000 KX 250, 2001 CR250 and now ride a 2002 CR250. The KX is a great bike with good power. My only complaint with mine was harsh front suspension for brisk trail riding but a trip to Phil Douglas at aftershocks would have cured it. The KX I had also developed a crack in the seat subframe; an easy fix but something to look out for.
The bike in the picture looks clean for its age and I doubt you can get something nicer within your budget. I say go for it and as always make sure the #s match the title and the title is clean.
By the way, dirtbiking is a tip toe or one foot down affair. If your husband is a street rider, it'll take a bit of getting used to, but he will. Once he does, you can kiss him goodbye on the weekends because the rain is coming and the dirt is getting tacky. Whooo Hooo...
