Tour de France 2024 thread

The first stage this year was great!
Straight into the countryside up and down winding canyons.
That's what draws me to the sport.

I usually give the flat sprinter stages a miss for the most part. Boring.
Three days and not even in France. Giro?

Already some cool stories in this year's tour. Maillot Jaune for Carapaz, stage for Girmay, Cavendish's hunt for 35, and the Galibier tomorrow? This is getting spicy!

spectacular stage into France and through the mountains, this morning. :ride

Amazing scenery on a super challenging Stage 4, exciting final descent, and I learned something about kite skiing today.

If not for the fact that there are two individual time trials I'd say the TDF is over.

But Vingegaard did not look strong enough to be the one to challenge unfortunately.

I’m having fun rooting for Mr Vingegaard.

hopefully he’s still riding into shape after his big crash, and will have something to show Mr Tadej when the big mountains return. :ride

Have to admit I was caught out by Cavendish's historic stage win. The announcers only mentioned his name maybe 130 times during today's broadcast.

the announcers could have said his name a few more times today, and I wouldn’t have noticed—I didn’t quite shed a tear after witnessing that sprint, but I did get a little emotional. :facepalm :laughing

39 years old; I really didn't think he had it in him.

Amazing.

Truly a record that will likely never be bested.

Certainly not in our lifetimes.

^^:thumbup

find myself enjoying the stages for the sprinters … watching today’s stage as it approached the finish was pretty exciting.

and if we thought Mr Cavendish was mentioned too much yesterday, the hagiography presented by our announcers today was off the hook. :laughing

Stage 9 was really fun. Love the gravel sections. Well earned rest tomorrow.

Looks like week three will be the most decisive stages.

Great to see the Eritrean rider win again.

lots of luck involved in Stage 9 for my guy … bike swap and then Mr Matteo’s epic pull in deep gravel to bridge the gap back to the yellow jersey. also fun to see some guys having to jump off their bikes to deal with the first gravel section. :ride

also enjoying Mr Horner’s vids of TdF tac-tics:

That was a fun analysis. How many gallons of coffee do you think Chris Horner drank before he recorded that?

Just found a friend flies to Barcelona tomorrow and then will end up in G-Pari for the Tour.

I honestly give two shit about the event, but I am glad others enjoy it. Keep on keeping on!

My bud is a die hard OG bike rider and he knows I am a die hard moto rider. Much respect between us.
