Toyota problems could be electronics

I'm feeling pretty good about selling my Tacoma 2 weeks before this issue blew up in early Feb. ;)

Yes - I know the Tacoma wasn't part of the initial problem but it seems to be tied to this problem above and the resale market has tanked.

One of the first lessons at California Superbike School is to lap without brakes. It's about time drivers pick up some skills.

Remember this next time the ignorati of the bureaucracy and the press team up to slander a product:
U.S. Points to Toyota Driver Error

Federal highway safety officials on Tuesday absolved the electronics in Toyota Motor Corp. vehicles for unintended acceleration, and said driver error was to blame for most of the incidents.

The findings of a 10-month-long study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration identified three main causes for sudden acceleration in Toyota and Lexus models. Two of them—sticky accelerator pedals and floor mats that trapped the throttle in an open position—were the subject of a series of Toyota recalls.

The third and most common problem was drivers hitting the gas when they thought they were hitting the brake, which the NHTSA called "pedal misapplication." [...]

At a Congressional hearing last year, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood had suggested that consumers should stop driving their Toyotas. On Tuesday, he said: "We feel that Toyotas are safe to drive."
"Never mind." /emily litella

This is what I expected. People can't drive. Shocker.

Whatever problems Toyota has, I'd still buy it over American cars.
I still think Toyota's better than any American crap put out. I got a feeling there's just some conspiracy to take Toyota down since its been kicking GM's ass in its own country. I know I'm not the only one to feel this way.

I can think of a few Fords I'd buy, I can't think of a single Toyota. :dunno

Ford has successfully produced and marketed great cars in Europe for decades. The fact that American's don't realize what they're buying recently from Ford are really FOB models from across the pond is actually kind of funny. But yet, I support what Ford's doing.

Stuck in the 1980's I see! :wtf

American car companies, like American Politicians, think they know what we want. Toyota seemed to know better, the big three have been paying attention though. With the Chinese doing a lot of the car companies parts, expect all the companies to have problems.

Toyotas have become automotive appliances. They're dishwashers with wheels. Does ANY auto manufacturer offer a more boring line up than Toyota (here in the US)? It's a world full of Camrys and Priusesesess (or whatever the plural for that POS is).

What happened to the Celica? What happened to the Supra? You would think they would make at least one interesting car.

The Scions are underpowered (plus, I'm not 12 years old) and the only interesting Lexus is $300,000. I can't afford it; if I could I'd buy Italian.

Toyota doesn't make them because no one was buying them anymore. If there was a market for them, do you think they'd just pull the plug on them willy-nilly? Hell no. There's no money there.

Scion did just come out with the FR-S, which could be interesting.
