TROUBLESHOOT:KTM 690 Duke Helll(p)!!!

Like a cold shower :x

Turns out, underneath the KTM stickers , they found a Ducati.

Mad

Summer in Lake Havasu is all about boats. Snow birds in the winter clog the town with RVs, Boats, multi engine off shore racers to patio boats enjoying a sunset.
Then there are "Lake Lice"

Anyone want to speculate on the availability of parts from KTM moving into June?

Perhaps Chris Dove has stepped into this storyline and "bought" the bike from Dani. :laughing

Enquiring minds are dying for the final diagnosis!

I do too!

However , after that initial contact and pictures I can’t even get a hold of him now.
The Boston boys will have come and gone by now too so I am wondering if they fixed the second problem ( not running at all ) and still were left with the first , ( stalling ), felt like they had somehow let me down ( which they haven’t : they got further than anyone else in this whole process ), and just won’t call me back !!!

Not a dove lol

And OMG CJ I didn’t even see your Dove post but after typing above I had to pause and go hmmm for a second. :rofl:rofl
We cane up with the same thought having had lived the same nightmare :laughing:laughing

Problem Found by Bullhead KTM AZ.

Okay , so I had posted up that the Boston Boys had found a ton of problems , but alas it wasn’t THE problem.
What the Boston Boys found was bad gas , bad spark plugs , a highly modified and cut out air box , electrical wiring with tape on it , etc etc.
This means that the shop that was supposed to do a basic tune up didn’t even do that.
And remember that Mach one only found that an injector hadn’t been hooked up.

My original mechanic , DirtYD and a lot of Barfers had it right by saying start with the basics. Yet I tried and just relied upon that a tune up was done amd valves were checked.

The whole problem came down to a sticky valve.
But with some serious consequences that caused it to shut down completely til the Boston guys dug in.
But they only got so far. Got it to restart but it sounded like total crap. Wouldn’t take throttle. My jet ski mechanic then turned to a KTM specialist.

KTM found that the Roller rocker on the intake rocker arm had seized up and disintegrated into the engine , taking with it bearing needles and valve shims.
Fortunately there are multiple screens that prevent the parts from actually going into the engine itself and also the KTM must have a shut down safeguard in that kind of catastrophe which would not allow it to restart at all
.

DirtyD said from the get go that this bike sounded more ticky than usual.
My Arizona mechanic said this bike was ridden hard and put away wet way too many times. But Bullhead is confident that they have the fix.

So whoever guessed sticky valve basically got it right.

Good to hear someone is finally getting to the bottom of this. Sounds like there were many issues going on with this bike........ :thumbup

Keep us posted, hoping for a positive end result. :ride

That was a common problem, although I hadn't heard of it in a while. I guess the bikes susceptible to the defect (and it was a manufacturing defect, with a superseded part number) mostly had that service performed and nobody was talking about it.

Wow... what a bad experience with the other dealers! That's some shady business, with potential long-term high costs.

Wow, this has been going on for a full year now. If all KTM bikes take that long to get fixed then we can as well become pedestrians. Sounds like an expensive fix as well.

Wow.

And here I thought that my R6 being held hostage at a local shop was taking too long... :rolleyes :rofl
