Two huge quakes hit Venezuela! 7.2 and 7.5

Side note:
The Loma Prieta quake (1989 San Francisco, if you're from the bay) felt MUCH bigger. I was in Ben Lomond, about 12 miles from the epicenter.
 
I remember that Petrolia one. We were in a redwood A-frame with it’s decking built around some giant redwoods perched up a steep mountainside. There was a bird that late evening which weirdly flew repeatedly into a hexagonal window high up the wall. Right then it quaked as the whole house swayed back and forth along the ridge line a few times, then the bird stopped.

NPR just reported that up to 10,000 Venezuelans may be lost in the end. Hope that isn’t the case. Most are trapped, some still alive. :rose

That's a pretty sensational number since there are only 40 confirmed deaths this afternoon.
Looks like it's been upped to about 250 now.

Hawaii is in the middle of this Ring of Fire, it surrounds the Pacific Rim, that which is suffering from a blown head gasket, shifting teutonic plates, releasing earths energy, I don't think she is done.

214 aftershocks already, over 250 buildings down, many pancaked high rises. Happened at 6:04pm on their Independence day and got dark an hour later. Over 51,700 still on the Desaparecidos Terremoto Venezuela site after they found more than 9400 of them. Many more will get in contact and come off that list hopefully. It is unclear whether they unrestricted social apps to help save folks or if there is a technical failure, but that is helping.
 
Oh man, the photos I've seen indicates the death toll will be significantly higher as time goes on.

Yeah, having two quakes of that size, one after another, is going to do major damage.

Death toll over 1,400 and they're just getting started.
