UC Berkeley starts ticketing cyclists

Good! What took so long? Other schools have been doing this since forever. It's really not difficult to get around campus and not break too many laws.

Unless they take over an administration building, they are a bunch of pussies unworthy of respect...

sounds like the tickets are as justified as the running the stop sign on a deserted road in the middle of buttfucking no where ticket that i got back in October. $220 is serious cash for a student

Good. Bikes have to abide by traffic laws. I'm fully in favor of fairness.

Running a sign is :bs. Fine 'em $1000 as far as I'm concerned.

That said, they do have a fair point about being cited for the CVC for $220 for parking a bike, when Berkeley (to the tune of 23% of the city's budget), cites other motorists under municipal sections == $$$. I think they're mostly asking the profiteering be extended to them as well.

:laughing

What does Davis do?

Davis strictly enforces the law in regards to cyclists but at the same time they have their own lanes and traffic lights. If you go to Davis and screw around on a bike you will get a ticket.

I support myself with scholarships and financial aid, so $220 is food for two weeks.
You're playing the starving student role, and spending $110 a week on food? You can eat fairly well for HALF that, easy. You can eat cheaply for a quarter of that.

ticket the dirty stinkin hippies. Stoopid bicyclists...

And back to the topic - The laws have been in place. They weren't enforcing them, now they are. Adapt quickly, or pay the fines.

If they are changing the laws for profit, then there is a problem.

I'm sure profit is the motive, but they're cyclists, fuck 'em. As hard and as often as possible.

Both. Profit and Safety. Fuck bicyclists.

I think fines that are between 50-100% of the cost of a bicycle are unreasonable.

Should we start fining people $5,000-$10,000 a ticket for motor vehicle violations?

If the kid has to SELL THE BIKE to pay the fine, the fine is too much.

The parking thing is excessive considering the same ticket for a car is less. as for the rest of the laws, oh well. Why should they pay less because the bike is a POS?
