UC Berkeley starts ticketing cyclists

I can understand the hate, but bicycles are just a way to get around. and most bicyclists are just people on bikes. true, there is a visible minority of asshats, but you could say the same about us motorcyclists.

Yup.
Yes, the Mission.

Oh and don't even get me started on Critical Mass. Someday, if I ever just snap, I'm going to kill dozens of people in Critical Mass.

this post may be used against you when you go postal. no kidding.

the way I read the article, it seemed to me like they were specifically talking about on campus traffic. there are hardly any "real" streets on Calm campus and vehicular access is highly regulated in most areas. furthermore, most of the paths are not conducive to even bicycles going very fast.

I was "paced" doing 23MPH in a 15MPH zone on the UCDavis campus. Ticket was somewhere around $100 I believe. I shrugged it off as a bored campus bicycle cop needing exercise.

in general, I don't think bicycle fines should be as high as motor vehicle fines. for better or for worse, no one needs to get licensed to ride a bike. and if you're gonna police people for not obeying traffic laws that they never needed to learn, that seems like some kind of entrapment. plus, this screws people who ARE licensed even more. after all, if you're a stinky hippie riding a bike but doesn't drive, what do traffic fines matter to you anyway?

Nobody made me memorize the Penal Code, particularly the parts about not robbing/murdering/raping you.

Does that mean I get to do it?
