Up'ing the Quest to 275

5/14/13 PM Update

More bad news. Shifting mechanism won't shift as parts off the shifting star and mechanisms are broken. We have it all apart now, trying to salvage what we can. The wizard is machining a new part from one that broke in hopes we can get our grove back. Right now, the junks all apart again all over the shop floor like a hand grenade went off inside. I need some sleep.

Ugh, I hate it when it gets this stressful for you. Thinking about you always though! :twofinger

5/14/13 Midnight Update

When life gives you lemons, make billet and tool steel parts!

Here's the mess...

Basically a few things broke inside behind the clutch basket forcing us to rip apart an already built bike. It was a mess in there. The wizard surmised that a couple things went wrong. After looking at broken parts, and making on the line decisions, we opted to go back into the machine shop and remake what broke instead of tearing apart my other 14, or waiting two days for parts.

So with the precision of a brain surgeon, the wiz crafted up and then welded what we needed fixed.

At about 10:30, the whole mess went back together with 3 sets of skilled hands, and, tadaa! -- We have a perfectly shifting bike. Big relaxing breath.

I just got home and in bed, it's a few minutes before 1AM. Another incredibly stressful day comes to a close. Tomorrow (well I guess today now :laughing) starts all over again in 5 hours. Lots and lots + my full time job to get done then. We are well into the 48 hour hustle. I can almost taste the El Mirage Dry Lake silt and dirt grinding in my teeth already.

5/15/13 Update

Went to pick up the truck and racing trailer, the AC compressor in the truck took a dump. It's getting fixed now, but may delay our departure a bit. We have so much to do still, I'm getting a little worried. Everyday has had something severely go wrong so far. I need to go buy a Lotto ticket, as my luck has to change soon.

If its any comfort I agree with the old adage that difficult practice & preparation usually leads to good performance, while easy practice leads to poor results. Sounds like you are on track to beat some records. :twofinger

5/16/13 AM Update

T MINUS 00:23:59:00

Truck is back. Need to get the trailer out of the yard this AM, clean, prep and load it. Have 3 hours or such left on the bike, checking gear, packing up spares. It's gonna be a full day. Need more hands and heads. Need to get me checked out also, may have strep throat, joy.

5/17/13 Update

Made it to El Mirage. Was up till midnight finishing the bike, then we left @ 2AM to get here. Got tech'd, got my inspection stickers for 2013 gear, and we are ready for tomorrow. Ran into old friends and met some new. Now we need to the wind to calm down a bit. I'll post up results tomorrow night. I am so friggen happy to be back here. I love this place.

OK, Peeps, I just got some results in, and Papi asked me to post 'em up!

His first pass (the shakedown run), he did 182.837 in the dirt mile. It's his fasted first pass ever, and the bike is running like a dream!!

Round 2 came in at 190.371mph!!! :wow

He missed his own record by just 1.5mph... that's it. Even if he does nothing tomorrow, he'll have picked up 197 points (out of 200) for that run alone!!!

Keep up the good work, Papi... I know tomorrow is going to be amazing!!! :thumbup
