Want to tour Golden Gate Park. Is it safe?

I fell like your vision for this involves less alcohol than mine does?

You have to give up all man cards to ride a Segway. Gawd, I hated those things in Prague. They kind of ruined the tourist experience because so many of the people end up being more excited to ride the things than actually tour. What's weird about Prague is that you can also rent a Maserati or Lambo fartcan thing for 20 minutes right near the historic city center and drive that around. I'd ban em both if I had the ability.

Anyway, I like the open-top double-decker, open bar with narration.

The fair weather side-hustle!

That's the "Burnet Gate" approach to Twin Peaks. There used to be a cop parked there but there isn't one now. The gate is closed (The road up is closed.)

Yeah, the day after the robbery then I see the story that they are closing it up which cast a weird light on the whole thing.

. Well, that's the last time THAT white car gets up there, I guess. They'll just have to rob on foot.

Nah, they'll just have to steal a different vehicle next time. :twofinger

Your misunderstanding.

It has been closed for a year. (what did you think "The gate is closed" meant? It's a rhetorical question.)

How was Twin Peaks Access changed during COVID-19?

To provide additional recreational space for physical distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic the Burnett Avenue and Portola Drive gates on Twin Peaks Boulevard were closed in early 2020. We saw a huge increase in people walking, bike and rolling at the park after the closure.

Back to the park, it was beautiful out there when I took that pic the other day.

Probably. I have 1-2 drinks a year. It probably takes me a decade to catch up to what you'd consume in an exciting day. :laughing

LOL, probably. I do not drink at home, so I have hardly had anything for like a year, but I pretty much only socialize when I am drinking.

The lifestyle disruption of the pandemic on people like me has been catastrophic. I probably will have 3 fingers of whisky and fall down when the world comes back this Summer. :laughing

Make sure you do it after dark so that Eldritch can give you the full tour. :laughing

Full. Frontal. Tour.

Hey, I'm definitely a thing! I'm almost human.. :x

Used to refer to us as the 3%..

Right on, rare bird. My Mom's family came to the City from the Old Country in the 1880's. Born in New York, I'm the first generation on that side to be born and gone to school outside the City since the 1880's.

I took the subway in NYC and told someone to fuck off, I think I'm in?

Did you squash a cockroach with your bare hand?

How long do you need to live here before you’re practically a native? 20 years ?

I guess its up to you to define practically.:laughing You could always say you "identify" with being a native. If you have dug in your heels to make it a better place, I certainly respect that. Some of the people I know who love SF the best weren't born there.

There is no formal license for when you get to start admonishing newcomers or tourists, yet.

Yer either a native or you ain't but it doesn't really matter. Bragging rights have their limits.

I think they're drawing a false causal connection between closing the road and the increase in people up there. I have no data to back it up but my guess is that ALL of SF's parks saw an increase in people over the last year. Everyone's on lockdown and using our public spaces is pretty much the only way to get outside.

I'm not saying it's such a bad idea, and certainly I can see how it would be dangerous to mix cars, bikes, and peds with the increased volume. But I suspect there would have been a big increase out there regardless of the closure.

More importantly, it's annoying that I haven't been able to ride my moto to the top with my girl for a sunset for almost a year. :ride

Agreed. Been here more than 25 years and would never call myself a native. You were either born and raised here or you weren't. But certainly, after 20+ years it's fair to call yourself a local.

Ha, this reminds me of something.

I heckled Rosie ODonnell at a Lake Tahoe casino comedy show because she said Californians are terrible drivers. This was after the obligatory, "hey is anybody from NY here".. This was on my honeymoon. I'm a fun guy but I wasn't in the mood to be told how "we" were. And in the 1970s, we were better drivers mostly because of less traffic and smaller population.

Right. Nothing has been typical involving local park and landmark visiting in the last year; so it would be impractical to make any conclusions about any of it. It's been amazing how many more people enter Wildcat Canyon from where I live, as one example. Of course it's been accompanied by more litter, mostly water bottles and cast-away face masks. Since I have been hiking or biking the whole area for 30plus years, I have a handle on what is usual. Weekend visits are easily 10 fold if not more. There's even some whacko doin a "Dance Church" on Sunday where tons of people climb up next to the water tank and dance like noodles in the wind with a gorgeous view. Makes me kinda proud of our weirdness.

Ya go where you can go.

PS. I like "local." That's what we should have been aiming for all along.

I believe the MTA just decided to open up the Portola side to Christmas tree point yesterday. No word on when that will take place though.

the Portola side is beautiful without cars. Was beautiful all year.

he complains that because the SFMTA closed the Burnett gate, you see, the robbery happened near his house, instead of elsewhere. : | :(

There were plenty of people with cars going up there even before the gate was closing, otherwise.

That's freakin cool. 1880's! We arrived in the early 40's just before WWII and been in the same house since.

If you're from Canada, then you have to double it. :twofinger

I might be dead in 27 more years!

I thought we were bad here but then get reminded of Quebec drivers every time I go home....
