Weaverville GOPatterson Mid Summer Magic Rally, 8/4-8/7

Call the 49er and ask to be put on the wait list. There's always a few cancellations.

You can also camp at the East Weaver Creek campground 2.5 miles from the hotel. :)

General note: bring rain gear just in case. I went to a ZRXOA rally one year and we had to sit through a one day downpour - not fun.

I hate to do this but if 36 is going to be under major road construction around Dinsmore, I'll probably head up I-5 to Red Bluff and take 36 west from there, then 3 north to Weaverville.

Red Bluff is about an hour north of Williams where I will merge on I-5 from 20 east.

I would go all the way up to 299 (taking 101) but I hear there may be construction delays on that road as well.

Dan

Just got back from a Weaverville run. California roads sure got whacked by this past winter. Roads construction everywhere. Did 101-128-1-101-36-3-Weaverville. Stayed at the 49er. Had Tops Market cater the BBQ for 20. The 49er is looking forward to seeing Barf. SomesBar to Cecilville to Callahan to 3 to Weaverville was shweeeet. Homeward was 36-101. Construction everywhere. None of the one way lanes were enough to turn me back. Most of the time we were able to get to the front of the line and have the road to ourselves.

I tried that last year and ended up sharing a shed roof with Aaron.

When do we get our password! I want to feel special.

:laughing
Good times.

+1 on the password. I can confirm that the password is not "Bieberville!" :laughing

There isn't one yet. Everyone simmer down. Enchanter just did some housekeeping to get things ready. :)

That about sums it up right now. I hear there may be extended delays at the one lane section of 36 that's a few miles before the Dinsmore store. They are doing straightening and widening in this technical section. Otherwise minor construction at random areas.

*though clearly whoever named the video motorcycle has only driven a stick shift car :p

But just that short section.
Are we riding this weekend Duncan? Bike fixed yet?

So, I do believe this year I'm going to skip the awesome road rides in the area. I've done most all of them, some many times on different machines.
Great stuff.

BUT... there's also some great off roading in the area so this year I plan to explore some of this.

As usual it came down to which bike in the stable I should use. '03 450EXC (plated), '06 950 Adventure S (last years rally choice), or my new (to me) mini adventure bike.

As of now I'm swinging towards the mini adventure bike.

What's that, you may ask...

About a month ago I picked up this '06 gem with only 1450 miles on it.

2006 Yamaha TW 200 (Trailway).

Similar to the KLR650 Kaw in that it has been manufactured since the mid 80's with very few changes to the basic bike.
It has a larger rear tire than any of my other bikes (180/80-14). The front is huge at 5.10 x 18.
A mere 16hp but geared low enough to climb anything. Top speed of about 60mph won't win awards but will get me there... and back. (It's not always about top speed).

I've been modifying it to meet my needs.

New rubber, oil cooler, footpegs, handlebars, grips, brush busters, sprocket & chain, Happy Trail racks, hi output headlight, headlight kill switch, voltmeter.

Here's how it looks as of last night...

OK, so many are probably thinking I'm a little whack for bring such a small bike to a large gathering.
Are you going to ride it all they way there... and back? ...some may be thinking.
Answer... no. My Mom lives in Anderson (South of Redding on I5) so I will hitch haul and park there and ride to Weaverville from there.

Can't wait.

Side note...
I've also considered just hauling to Weaverville. This would allow me to bring my Margarita machine (Danger Will Robinson) and supplies for a couple nights of Margarita's.

Paging SFMCjohn... looking forward to hitting some trails with ya.
I "hope" to head North on Wednesday.
