Wedding Venue Recommndations

it was for sale (had toyed with the idea of buying it), but that was some time ago. have not heard it has been offered again recently. it remains my dream property though. i would put an organ in the attic. and play it after midnight.

Gotta play Bach's "Tocata & Fugue in D Minor" if you're gonna do it!!

Congrats, Brandon.

No idea about a nice wedding location but IIRC GrizzlyPeakGuy had his wedding on GG Bridge. The wedding party walked over to the bridge so they saved money on Toll as well.

I was lucky enough to have my GF agree to be my fiancée last week and were trying to narrow down the many (MANY) venue options.

FTFY

Unless you meant your BF. :twofinger

Congo rats.

And yes, it's expensive. Even if you don't do anything excessive it is still expensive.

Pro tip: do not tell anyone that you're hiring them for a wedding. Tell them it's an office party or something. Anything wedding related is 2x the cost of what it normally should be.

"Marriage is a prison."

Alcatraz

Known as a notorious prison site for the most dangerous criminals, Alcatraz is now an interesting tourist destination. Kuoni Tours offers "The Escape from Alcatraz" wedding package that includes the marriage license, wedding bouquet, cake, champagne to toast the event, registrar fees and transportation to the site.

Starting things right. :laughing

OP, if you are looking to learn a wedding dance I know an awesome instructor. :)

best not to do it during shoreline amphitheater's season, as though the schedule is "published" they've been known to add random shows with about 1 month warning.

season is usually may-nov with the majority of shows in the summer months

I'm getting married there in Aug :laughing

Before we booked the venue, we went there during a big concert and you can't hear the amphitheatre at all.

traffic is a much bigger issue. your guests will be late as there is only one way into the park, and it's also the main artery into horeline.

i worked in the traffic dept there for years, and every wedding had people coming through going "omg fuckyou i'm late for a wedding you MUST get out of MY way!!!11!1!!"

if it's earlier in the day, it's less an issue

Brazilian Room is 20% more expensive for non-residents of ALA and CC counties though per their rate sheet.

Oh, I totally forgot that you can also book the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco for weddings. My friend's sister got married there last week. She said that it was surprizingly cheap because it is owned by the City and not some private organization.

If it's only gonna be 30ish people, you can definitely consider some oddball places for free. I'm pretty sure when my friends got married in Redwood Regional park, it was free. I'm sure parts of Tilden and the like can also be reserved for cheap or free too. That Sutro bath recommendation is pretty cool. The reception is the expensive part. The who and how of supplying the food and drink will add a lot to the cost.

We got married at a friend's parents' house in Sebastopol. Catered by taco truck, DJ'd & bartended by friends... We still ended up spending like $10k. It was a great wedding and most or our friends count it among their favorite weddings (next to their own).

WORD! We needed port-a-potties for our wedding. You can't just budget them in. Unless you know your way around, you can only get a quote by submitting a form on a website and they'll get back to you with a quote for over a grand. Luckily, our friend's dad called up the local industrial rental place, told 'em he was having some work done over the weekend and needed a couple port-o-potties for the "workers." I think it was less than $150.
