What will be your next motorcycle?

Got this Monday. A Lightning Spark, pre production. Prolly trade up to a Strike in a year. Or maybe a LS218. Or maybe a WTF.
That looks like the perfect bike if you have Mt Hamilton in your backyard. I am Jelly.

I have a multi Pikes Peak. I don’t want another 500+lb bike. I want a canyon carver. 790 / 890 are there but the 990 adds a little more weight but the HP I love.
My 2023 Superduke 1290R EVO is about to be traded away for an R1. It's got less than 3k miles.

I bought it that day at Motor Cafe after the Slow Race (on my 950SP Hyper)

If it was my money, I’d take a look ant and ride the new V2 Panagale. Power is down from the previous V2 in the 120s stock. Ducati is soooo much better these days. Alternate would be a used Daytona 765 with some, uh, mods. There is a LOT of hidden power in that thing. The street triple is also in that same category if you don’t mind the windblast (800 lb Gorilla…) of a naked. Or, as a true “sending-it” artist, the Suzuki GSX-R750. They just won’t stop selling that thing and I will buy one soon….
I've also heard that the new R9 is pretty much as good as the new V2 for a lot less scratch....

That, I do not believe.
You don’t believe I heard it or you don’t believe the R9 is as good as the V2? Kidding, in truth I watched some videos. I’d have to ride them both, but the stats and the reviews are compelling…

That swingarm on the R9 . Price point's good though..and finally, Yami figured out how to unlink the brakes....

If you had my knee and limited range of motion you would get why a Panagale is a 100% no way. I sat on one and at full bend my heel barely touched the foot peg. The KTM is tallish and works well. :afm199
Congratulations! Looks fantastic!
Agreed!! Beautiful machine Byron.

@HD67 - Nice looking sled :cool

I'm starting to think about options. My Hypermotard is at over 66,000 miles and I love it, but I'm not sure how long it'll live. I love almost everything about it, so it'll be tempting to just get the 950 as it's solves the one main complaint I had with this bike was the fueling and that occasional exciting flame out. But, it's even less capable of touring as the subframe go lighter so I'd have to be conscious of how much weight I loaded on the rear (though I tend to travel light).

The KTM 890 SMT seems purpose built for me, but the down spec suspension and brakes are kind of a turn off given the price point.

For me, all touring focused machines are either too heavy, or a little short on suspension travel, and I really prefer sitting on, not in, the bike.

I'm might also just keep riding the Hypermotard until it dies, part it out and then figure out what's next, but it would be disappointing to get stranded in the middle of nowhere, and the middle of nowhere is a great place to be.

I have never ridden a bike until death. Sounds Nobel. However middle of no where does not always bring joy so……. Good luck with that. :teeth

Totally with you there. I’m still looking for that unicorn. I think everybody is. I have f650gs Dakar and it has over 40K miles on it. Fine bike, it’s not too heavy but doesn’t have the power. Off road it’s ok but a bit scary at anything over 30. On highway it’s scary because it gets wobbly above 80 and the you’re 3/4 of the way up the revs at 70. The KTM 890 might be the right bike, but it’s also heavy (460 dry) and bulky. I guess you can’t have it all in one bike. Where is that light, 80-100hp, comfortable do-all that isn’t also loaded with extra features that add weight and complexity and and will get you over the mountain pass fire roads?

With you Joe. I'm hoping the upcoming F450GS can be modded to shed a few lbs (spec'd at 375 lbs) and add a few ponies (spec'd at 48 hp) hence that's my current choice for "the next bike"

We shall see when it actually comes out.

I always have a bit of cash set aside in case I find one of the few 1992 Ducati 900 Superlights that are still around and occasionally pop up for sale.
