Where did Jesus (the one in the bible) tell his 12 disciples to start churches...?

I was just about to ask that: is there any historical record - outside of the Bible - to confirm the existence of Jesus, or that corroborates the stories in the Bible?
Yes, there has been archeological evidence to support some the events / incidents noted in the Bible, but I don’t think the existence of Jesus was one of them. It is easy to poke fun of someone’s belief, because there is no empirical evidence in a belief – or it would be a fact. I don’t practice any religion, but I envy that kind of complete acceptance and belief in a benevolent being..

Of course it would be funny if we die, get to heaven, and find out the Hari Krishnas were right…

The Krishnas are approached by the Religious Zealot.

Airplane! Great movie. :thumbup

:wtf

and collect 15-20% of the wages from it's followers that catholics/christians do now....????

okay, technically, there was only 11 true disciples while the 12th one started a rock band Judas Priest and have done pretty well for himself...

You do realize you could use this to attack virtually ANY part of modern Christianity? Jesus didn't say a ton of stuff that they practice today. It's all interpretation. If you're looking to attack Christianity, there are much much much easier ways, e.g. logic and reason.

Mormons especially. Seriously, if you believe Joseph Smith was anything but a con-artist who wanted to sleep with other men's wives, your sense of critical evaluation is broken.

As already mentioned, it was a practical matter. It's also part of history, not just a 'story' from a mythical publication (unless you think Jews and their history don't really exist).

But for a reality check, a bomb went off today in Russia, probably by someone who was willing to die based on their own version of a fairy tale. That part seems pretty real to me.

theres quite a bit of evidence that most of their "history" is not in fact, fact. or based on real hisroty. they did not build the pyramids, nor wander the desert for 40 years for example.

Correct. But there is evidence of a temple in Jerusalem, and plenty of written documentation of their practices in it that explain (Historically) what Dandelion posted. There is also some evidence of Egypt's rise to power by having the ability to create goods when others did not have that ability. But....no record of any guy wearing a technicolor dream coat :)

As far as the rest of "Christianity" and "what Jesus said", you'll have to remember that the Great Universal Church was created using things from Christianity (the Jesus version who most agree did exist, but as a knowledgeable Jew and not the Messiah) and all the other Pagan religions that existed in the Roman Empire. It was not meant to be correct, only to unify and control the conquered masses.

There is some truth in this. Especially how we came about celebrating December 25th as Christ's birthday by the order of Emperor Constantine.

Can we please stop quoting figures and acts in the bible as being real since there's no proof outside of that book to support the "stories" it tells.

There is plenty of evidence. Theres whole bodies of evidence in north africa, the middle east, ect.

There are ancient stones that corroborate battles in the bible. Remember, the first 5 books of the bible are what the jews consider Torah. The history, the numbers, whos daddys who and who killed who.

Theres also a lot of poetry in the bible. Its not simply a historical record, its poetry, and on top of that, you have the new testament. The new testament is relatively new... it was only organized oh, 1900 years ago. It focuses on Jesus, and the early church (Christianity founded). Like Socrates, Jesus dident write any of his own story down, others wrote it for him. But his message is pretty universal- Love one another, treat one another right, and live peacefully.
