Why do Ferrari's sound like Hondas with fart cans?

I am not sure what you are hearing, but every example of the 458 I hear is great.

There's always 458's at track days and they always sound great to me even when idling in the hot pits. Each his own!

The 458 Challenge is in a different league all together.

I find the Porsche Cup cars to sound annoying though.

Nope, if you were sitting outside Starbucks like I do often, and saw a 456 putz by at only 15-20 mph, you would say "WTF, sounds like a Civic with no resonator or cat. converter"

Like I said, it isn't going to be revving that high while putzing through Danville.

So just like some of the fake boobs in Danville, "they'll never get used properly and therefore they suck. :x "

:rofl

Another thread....

Flat-plane crank V8 engines sound ever so boring. It's much like a 4 cylinder. Sure they can sound good at higher RPM, but lets not pretend that they sound good at ilde.
I'm just saying that it seems silly to talk about this car's idle growl when it sounds like two fart cannon civics at idle.
Still not as good as the older Ferrari's idle.

I actually lived in Danville for 8 years. I spent many thousands of mornings getting coffee at the roastery, and Starbucks. I worked right across the street, and even worked that door at Menars back in the day.

I have seen countless Ferraris drive by. Never, not even once, did I hear one that sounded like a civic with a fart can.

Just my experience. Not making anything up to contest your thread. :laughing

Probably because the 458 was not being sold back then. :laughing

I'm shocked that Ferrari didn't put more focus on this car's 10-15mph performance. They won't be in business long if they keep treating these things as sports cars.

Concours/Classics week is coming up around here next week, I'll have more than a few chances to hear the "fartcans" putzing around because traffic slows to a crawl....

I'm shocked that Ferrari didn't put more focus on this car's 10-15mph performance. They won't be in business long if they keep treating these things as sports cars.

:laughing

Yeah, "real world" performance....

Just messin with Reli, it's all relative. But come on man, who would ever engineer a exhaust for cruzing on a supercar ?

That's actually a good point.

I haven't seen a 458 since I moved to NC. I can tell you all about pickups truck exhausts though. :laughing

I'm with the OP. Never been a fan of Ferrari V8s much. Too raspy and often sound like a bucket of bolts at lower speeds. Some of them on the boil do conjure up memories of old race cars, but most of them sound just meh to me.

:twofinger

Or because "your" != "you" :twofinger

Haha, that's always the way, isn't it? I've fallen on my own grammar sword.

Anyway, Ferraris in the city crack me up. They can show their speed for like a block. Although I did get smoked by a guy in a 911 going up and over Oak by Divis. Dude must've gotten up to 85+ MPH as I watched him disappear into the Panhandle.
