Why do Ferrari's sound like Hondas with fart cans?

Being a Fiero, I'm guessing one headlight up, one headlight down, right? :teeth

Only once you hit 115. Then you just turned them on out of fear of one of those speed brakes ripping off of the hood.

I had a GT. 2.8L V6...also a terrible lump. But better than the iron duke.

I remember when the fastback version came out......Magazines were comparing its styling to the exotics :rofl
Shows you how hard-up those years were for good cars.

Oh, and people with Cavalier Z24's used to think they were such badasses just cuz it was the first V6 in a FWD econobox.......But its quarter mile was still probably 16 something :rofl

I had a 69 Chevelle 350 I got printed and balanced I used to tool around Berkeley/SF with open Hedmann headers for a couple weeks till I could scrape up the dosh for exhaust pipes/cans. I thought it sounded ok.
man, you could get away with shit back then.:laughing:laughing

One girl I worked with saw it in the parking lot and thought I drove a Lotus. In all honestly, I thought the styling of my Fiero was actually better than the Esprit of the same year.

True, the Esprit didn't get good till the 90's. Consider the difference between these two pics:

I wonder if she was thinking Elan instead of Esprit...

One of my neighbors has one, I actually kinda like it.

^ think only a few hundred of those made it here.

Lotus made some pretty bold claims in its brochure:

A front wheel drive configuration was chosen because of the clear performance advantage. Lotus Engineering has been involved in the design and tuning of suspension systems of all kinds. Their experience has shown them that a front wheel drive design is always faster over a given course if you compare two chassis with the same weight, power and tires.

O rly? :wtf Guess they should tell that to F1 and NASCAR.

No it was all Lotus design except that the engine was Isuzu. Kia only bought the rights to it later.

I bet a little collaboration went on. I seem to remember an Isuzu (a piece of shit) back then. The Impulse was it? Anyways it had a prominent badge that said "Handling by Lotus" on the sides.

Why do Ferrari's sound like crap at speeds you can see with the nekkid eye?

How about electric cutouts that maintain fart velocity until a certain RPM, then there is not much effect affecting power/torque.

4T engines with a well designed exhaust use the fart of one cylinder to create a vacuum to scavenge and help suck the fart of another out, similar to a bunch of 12 year old kids at camp. Also explains why exhaust crossovers exist.

Like following a semi on the freeway: the semi is breaking the wind in front of you, and you're able to get sucked and scavenged.

Think about all those rich people with Ferrari's living in places with a HOA - nasty letters about how loud your car is? Exhaust cutouts help.

Pulling the fuse to the cans in a Z06 Vette, V8 Vantage, and Fartcan 458

At low RPM's there is a lot of time between farts. As the farts increase, the fart flow becomes more and more steady like a long silent-n-deadly, and the scavenging effect is diminished.

Torque is related to fart gas velocity therefore the sound when it exits; by restricting the fart flow, until a certain RPM torque is retained, again until it is a constant stream. Feel your exhaust at idle, then at cruising rpms.

Related: Why doesn't a turbo work from idle? It needs a good, long, and hot silent-n-deadly fart so it is spinning consistently and then can do the job it is there to do; the fart sucking has less positive impact.

FWIW: I use Dyna-Beads in all my non-track bikes and have been known to ride a Vespa.

if the snorty boredom of a restless high performance engine muddling about sounds like a fart can to you - you need to get your ears checked.

Not every high-performance engine, only the POS known as the 458. Honestly I'd be embarrassed to spend a quarter mil on one, only to discover that I'd have to redline it to make it sound good.

dude - picking on little brother is a cheap shot (and still wide of the mark). pro tip - if you tackle a brand - take on the big dog and own it or GTFO.
