So Apple only has 10% of the worldwide notebook market share, according to research firm TrendForce. HP, Lenovo and Dell each have a higher share.

Apple ties for 4th place with ASUS :rofl

So why is it that 75-80% of the Starbucks laptop users I encounter are using a MacBook?

Is it just an SF thing?

People who *can afford* the Apple premium also *can afford* to sit in Starbucks all day?

* replace phrase with "are dumb enough to pay" depending on your hater status

SF and bay area thing. for techies you're cool only if you use a Mac. I have a doorstop of a laptop (thinkpad). For my next laptop from work I plan on getting a Mac and try to be one of the cool kids. :laughing

Is WiFi interface any easier on Mac products in public places?

I have an Android craptablet that I got talked into and its terrible for using hosted wifi in hotels and public places. Just craaaaaaap. Ms BA's iPhone was just fine in Europe but I could barely get a signal quite often.

I was at Logan Airport last Friday and they offer free wifi. My tablet browsers got taken over by some Boingo program and I couldn't erase it whatever. Haven't used the thing since. I would know what to do with Mac stuff in this situation.

Meh. I'm cool off spending $2000 on a relatively underpowered machine, especially for what I use it for (office suite / web browsing). My $300 refurbished dell business class laptop with an SSD has held up for 3 years and does everything I need it to do.

I guess if you wanna blow money by all means

A lot of the same sorts of employers who encourage working from home are the same sort who offer their employees a take-home laptop for productivity / perk-provision reasons?

My personal laptop is a 2009 MacBook from grad school. A friend of my hooked me up with an employee discount.

Does that make me yuppie skum?

My personal laptop is a MBP 13" from 2010. I don't like starbucks but it's fine if that's what people want. I've never brought my laptop to one :)
