Why do most Starbucks customers use MacBooks?

A quick sampling of the Peet's I'm at has it about 50-50 PC/Mac. :p

They can afford *bucks because when you figure out the resale, the Mac is actually cheaper to own (try selling a 4 year old doorstop)

I Mac myself, but prefer Peets or BB :thumbup

So Apple only has 10% of the worldwide notebook market share, according to research firm TrendForce. HP, Lenovo and Dell each have a higher share.

Apple ties for 4th place with ASUS :rofl

So why is it that 75-80% of the Starbucks laptop users I encounter are using a MacBook?

Is it just an SF thing?

Because Starbucks is for assholes, OBVIOUSLY. ;)

People sell their old laptops?
I have 4 or 5 old ones stored around the house but they've all had tax info on them at one point or another so they aint going anywhere but a crusher or some such instrument of destruction.

A lot of the same sorts of employers who encourage working from home are the same sort who offer their employees a take-home laptop for productivity / perk-provision reasons?

/\ This would be a primary factor imo. Every tech company I've seen that gives employees a work laptop always hands out Macbooks.

When I was shopping for laptop I went with apple
1) I hated Windows 8.1
2) After trying to use touchpad on ones I tried for 10 seconds I wanted to throw laptops in to garbage can.

I recently got HP laptop for work and touchpad experience is almost same as on mbp, and I don't hate windows 10.

So when mbp gets thrown in trash can, my next one will be none apple. Unless MS fucks up windows again, or manufacturer's drop the ball on touchpad drivers.

Yeah there are some PC touchpads that suck (like Toshiba's), because they use a shitty driver. Toshiba's cursor hangs up for 10-20 seconds randomly.

HP's are very nice.

But get yourself a Samsung 9 Spin like mine, it shits all over MacBooks. More features, more performance, fantastic screen, 2-in-1 w/touch, top-notch build quality, similar price.

No one is saying that the Mac is the cheapest...it's just the best.

In what aspect?

Build quality? Have you seen the latest HP's and Samsungs? Their build quality is just as good, if not better.

Hell, MacBooks don't even have a touchscreen. WTF? Sorry but that's a non-starter for me.

I have a doorstop of a laptop (thinkpad).

ThinkPads may look boring, but they have the best keyboards...... The deepest travel, curved keys, soft-touch coating, and spillproof. :thumbup

Comparing world wide market share of MacBooks to the % of individuals using MacBooks in a coffee shop is quite the illogical comparison.

That is the same thing, for example, as saying harleys make up only 20% of the bike sales in the Bay Area, but half of the bikes in the mountains are harleys.

I agree, but I was too lazy to research further.

Besides, Apple's share within the US (or even in the Bay Area) can't possibly be 75-80%, like it seems to be in Starbucks.

my company gives us dell's. infuriating machines. the last time i got good and pissed off at mine, i grabbed my iphone and pounded the shit out of it with the corner of the phone. it no workie at all after that. my IT department said it couldn't be saved and asked be about the deep dents in the case (that BTW apparently invalidated the warranty). i just shrugged and said i didn't know. i'm on my 4th machine in six years. the phone was fine though.

Shittiest battery life of any laptop on the market, everything else last two hours longer. Do not buy the 9 Spin unless you like looking at a dead screen. :p

Stick with #1.

Meh. I'm cool off spending $2000 on a relatively underpowered machine, especially for what I use it for (office suite / web browsing). My $300 refurbished dell business class laptop with an SSD has held up for 3 years and does everything I need it to do.

I guess if you wanna blow money by all means

my powerbook held up for something like 6 years. I sold it because I wanted something that could run the photo editing software I used. I think the guy still uses it!
my next macbook held up for 5 years under my use until the shitty examsoft software caused it to overheat the battery and melt the cable. Replaced the battery cable, and it still runs now with a new SSD in it. Now it's going on 7 years.

I've never had a PC laptop that lasted for more than 3.
I use the hell out of my equipment, I guess? :twofinger

all 3 of those laptops have traveled around the world with me. :ride

I liked the IBM thinkpads. They were good. The Lenovos are okay. I just had a string of shitty PC laptops (good reputable brands too) and said screw it.

I think this apple laptop/phone will be the last though. They are falling behind in terms of their user interface, specs, and features.

it's not the same since narcissistic-personality-disorder-Jobs left.

Dude you need to change your bong water :p

Apple's QA standards on HW alone has gone down hill in the last few years.

My manager switched from a PC to Mac. 1 month old and the motherboard had to be replaced. (+ a few other users with similar premature HW failures).

I've actually considered buying an OSX box (or run one as a VM that I can access remotely via my iPad Pro) just so that I'm more comfy supporting OSX.

In my experience, The Apple is a PIA, when dealing with standard business applications, especially with the last release.

For the record- I don't hate Apple and I don't like MS. :p (and I've never found a Linux distro that I liked.)
