Why the F18 buzz?

I love military jets and the 747.

I'm a total plane dork. I'll stop and look at any plane passing overhead.

Once for work I got to interview some pilots who flew F106s. They have one at the Museum at McClellan, and that is one pretty bird.

Whats the use of having the fastest planes in the world if you cant show them off every now and then??

Minimum alt. is 1000ft. above ground level, or 1000 ft. above any obstacle within 2000 ft. horizontally, and since it's uncontrolled airspace, (underneath the San Francisco Class B airspace), the speed restrictions are set really high.
Probably not the best idea when sharing airspace with other general aviation aircraft crawling along at 100 knots sight seeing. But fun to watch.

Is this where you live? :laughing

this was around the time of the Salinas airshow abt 4 years ago. I was working in Ryan Ranch at a publishing company, next to the monterey airport.

One day i stepped out of the local *$ in the plaza nearby the offices to see three F18s, one after another in full take off, thrusters shitting the most satanic looking plume of awesome.

I could have sworn they were less than 700 ft in the air. Shook the block and set off pretty much every car alarm in the immediate area.

Pretty epic in context. Its as if mankind was saying, "you know what Sky? Fuck you. Were gonna shove this loud metal dagger all up in yer guts, ya bitch."

:laughing damn good description

^^ and cool shit on that last photo.

watching the Blue Angels is fucking amazing too. They would buzz my apt in Seattle (part of their loop pattern) for their show over the lake. very cool.

Maybe there was an Admiral's daughter tanning topless by the pool.

That'd be worth a flyby... for Navy guys at least.

Try standing on the flight deck of a carrier when they're spooling up a few dozen FA-18's and a handful of F-14's (even bigger and badder) for a "rapid launch event". Talk about a show of force....:flag

^been wanting to see that :teeth

ahha Try Working In Sunnyvale right under the landing alley for Moffit. WE LOVE IT! We see everything land there!!!!

I was fortunate to catch one of the few remaining flights of the Concorde. When those four Olympus turbojets are at full throttle for takeoff, even at a half mile away during the takeoff roll, it's like God Himself is shouting you down.

I lived in Renton, WA during the torture testing of the Rolls 800 engine for the Boeing 777. Even miles away in the "Highlands", you could hear when they were running the motor bolted to a test stand...the roar of the throttle firewalled past safety margins, then the shriek when they'd slam the thrust reversers on, then dropping the throttle and repeating the process to see when/if/how it would malfunction...epic.

Why? Because

Cruising for chicks, watching who rolls the STOP sign, ticketing you and/or arresting and/or shooting you if you do, those kinda things.

Over my house in Orinda at about 1,000 feet about 450 knots.
