Wikileaks blocked?

Accusations are cheap; convictions actually take some doing.

Again, right back to the Bill of Rights; "innocent until proven guilty" and all that other inconvenient stuff...

Your logic seems kinda tortured. Nobody has convicted Assange of anything yet; I think we can agree on that much. He's going through due process now.

Maybe you'd like it best if he just gets a free pass on all this, but he's not going to.

Neither WikiLeaks nor Assange are entitled to US Constitutional protection. WikiLeaks is not a US entity and Assange is not a US citizen. They have no First Ammendment rights.

But corporations do have them. I'm not sure if WikiLeaks is a non-profit or what. This is a facinating showdown and I feel like it's really going to set some interesting legal precedent.

Ah the irony of how the web got started and what's going on here...

All other considerations aside, I think we are seeing a full dress rehearsal on what Cyberwarfare will look like. Interesting stuff.

Think about it: if the US military wanted to drill a cyber war, this is a golden opportunity. Maybe someday we'll look at today as a watershed moment.

MR. CROWLEY: ...
Anyway, just to start off, the United States is pleased to announce that we’ll host UNESCO’s World Press Freedom Day in 2011 from May 1 to May 3 here in Washington, D.C. UNESCO is the only UN agency with a mandate to promote freedom of expression, and its corollary, freedom of the press. The theme for this commemoration will be 21st Century Media: New Frontiers, New Barriers. Obviously, we decided upon this before the latest round of news.
The United States places technology and innovation at the forefront of its diplomatic and development efforts. There certainly is an irony here. New media has empowered citizens around the world to report on their circumstances, express opinions on world events, and exchange information in environments sometimes hostile to the exercise of freedom of – for the right of freedom of expression. At the same time, we are concerned about the determination of some governments to censor or silence individuals and to restrict the free flow of information. We mark events such as World Press Freedom Day in the context of our enduring commitment to support and expand press freedom and the free flow of information in this digital age.

Uh, Mr Crowley, could you step into my office please?...and shut the door behind you.

The Bolivian government is now hosting WikiLeaks Cablegate documents on its official servers: http://wikileaks.vicepresidencia.gob.bo/.... under the banner of the Vice President's office and the office of the President of the Legislative Assembly. The statement reads:

"The Vice President of the State of Bolivia and the President of the Plurinational Legislative Assembly, seeking to democratize access to information available to the public, are making available the documents of the Department of State of the United States, published by Wikileaks, which refer to Bolivia. All of them are available in their original language (English) and those that contain information relevant to the country, beyond simple references are translated into Castilian or being in the process of being translated, a situation in which we ask for your patience.

The search engine offers search alternatives according to the relevance of the document, its creation date, language of the source institution, etc. We firmly believe that this site will expand access to this vital information and facilitate the work of many citizens."

I wonder if Pakistan and Bolivia are now going to have to answer to very convenient rape charges...

The rape charge stuff was out there before this happened.

and the swedish prosecuter dropped the charges, and then a different one took them back up later.

btw it isnt RAPE charges, its sexual misconduct of consensual sex, in which a condom broke and he didnt stop to change it. and the woman was totally a plant. thats all coming out now
