World Cup

I do wonder what soccer would look like if the players didn’t fall over and grab their leg at the slightest impact. It looks like they’ll ignore it if the scoring chance is that good. Is it not a foul if the receiving player doesn’t go down?

Will do.
Scoring alone is a useless metric, excitement in a game comes from scoring, high risk area play and scoring chances, along with exciting gameplay.

Hockey has a lot of scoring chances and very fast, intense exciting gameplay, Play anywhere on the ice is a second or three away from being a scoring chance

Soccer has much fewer scoring chances, and much of the gameplay outside of those scoring chances is very low risk/unexciting middle of the field kicking the ball around.

The possibility of scoring chances (every pitch potentially) I guess is what makes baseball appeal to people.
Same with football, every snap could be the big one, even when most aren't.

Goalposts haven't moved

The game would be smoother if they didn’t flop. But when they are actually kicked in the shin/foot it hurts. The amount of force they can exert when kicking is massive. And given how vulnerable your lower leg is the chance for injury is extremely high. Then taking a cleat to the leg is something else. It’s still a foul if the player doesn’t go down but it just depends on if the referee thinks it was intentional.

I am glad to see the refs trying to crack down on the flops and wish they did more.

I can def tell many of the impacts do hurt, esp when cleats are involved. But it’s rly funny when the down guy pops back up like nothing once the yellow card is pulled out.

Fouls are mostly still a foul even if unintentional, right?

The guy breaking his leg early in the tourney was nuts. It seemed like it was worse because he had all his weight on that one leg when it was kicked.

Soccer is still a contact sport so no not always a foul if unintentional. If it’s an out of control body, yeah they’ll call a foul.

🥳

It happened again. I got up off the screen for 1 minute at around the 93' mark to clean something up,...and they score a third goal. :facepalm

felt like Morocco was out hustled by Canada … very anxious game to watch, despite the final score.

Well, well, well. No more love for Belgium. They can suck it. Let's go USA!

Brazil is on their way home and the Vikings move on.
Impressive.

Rain delay in Mexico; could be the "equalizer" England needed.

Everyone will play slower in the altitude and we know who plays in more rain.

Mexico won’t play slower in their home stadium. 7k in elevation is going to take its toll on the English players. Mexico has only lost 2 games in Azteca in many many years.

sooo... mexican football fans... : | : | what I hear:

let's see... shooting at "SPARK social" in SF during a Mexico game. So the place stopped showing any games

Leaving trash and breaking more than usual in San Jose's "San Pedro" Sq , so they will not show the Mexico games

party/zumbella /fireworks/noise in front of the England's hotel in MX City.

:x
