Worst Cycle Gear Experience Ever ~ Modesto ~

I'd be more of a fan if they weren't such a showcase of BILT products. As far as the eye can see. It's like the Walmart of the moto world.

I do shop there occasionally, but reluctantly, mostly due to the service. As an MSF ridercoach, I receive a decent discount at CycleGear that varies on the product purchased. Basic Rider Course grads receive a one-time 15% discount with their completion card. Each time I go in, and I bring out my RiderCoach card, the counter person immediately goes into a spiel about the discount being one-time, and only 15%, so I should make the most of my discount... then I tell them that I'm a RiderCoach, and that I should receive a different disount.

Every single f%^#&ing time, at each of the three CycleGear outlets I go to, they either A.) don't know what a "Ride Instructor People" person is, or B.) can't find my RiderCoach number in the computer so they have to ask me what store I originally signed up at, then call that store to verify, or C.) can't find my RiderCoach number period so I'll "need to come in when the manager is here, but he won't be here until Thursday so you'll have to do it then". Well if I wanted to drive twenty-odd miles on Thursday to talk with your manager, just so I could receive a few % off, would I be here now? I don't expect them to enjoy selling me their products at discounted prices, but at least have enough knowledge to operate the computer sufficiently for a paying customer. Those boneheads don't realize that I tell between 80-90 new riders each month that they'll receive a one-time 15% discount at CycleGear, thereby helping them to sell more product to new riders. As-is, they only seemed concerned about selling FOX or Metal Mulisha t-shirts.

The phone call isn't necessary. The list of certified RiderCoaches is available to them on their internal server if you've 'registered' with a store. Have them look up the Rider Support/RiderCoach List next time. You may still need a manager or assistant manager to grant you the discount; policy regarding who can give discounts tends to vary from store to store.

I went in the Pleasanton Cycle Gear yesterday for a tire. They didn't have it, but told me they could order it and have it the next day (today). The price was only a few bucks more than what I would have paid online, so I figured it would be worth it to have the tire the next day. When I went in today to pick it up, it was there as promised, they handed it to me, I said "thank you" and left. That is all. No problems, no complaints. :)

Trust me when I say that my attitude nothing but friendly and cordial, even after our interaction. I have worked in the customer service and Hospitality industries in the past, thats why I was shocked at how I was treated. This is the only time in 20 years of riding that I've been upset enough to complain about it...

Who knows? Maybe even a simple apology for their error would have sufficed, but she couldn't even think to muster one up...

Pleasanton Cycle Gear has always treated me well...

I live but a couple of miles from the Modesto Cycle Gear and shop there often. I have NEVER had a problem in the last 6 years, have always been treated well and I will shop there again.

Dear Cycle Gear Corporate,

I like your store and your people.

Please don't fire anyone.

Thank you

Everyone can't be perfect all the time I know in retail it's expected but never happens

I like Modesto CG and SF CG. They keep my 6 year old daughter entertained while I shop lol

The people at both shops are pretty cool but I take the time to get to know people from places I like to go and shop. That way I'm not just some random guy off the street pissed off about a master link.
