Worst First Car for a 16yo boy

:wtf That's 99% of today's new cars & trucks.

I think stability is more important. Some cars (like Honduhs) are nervous and tail-happy, even when doing simple shit like lane changes.

Must have been a long time since i've driven a honda. I always thought they were the king of understeer.

My daughter will inherit my 911. I'll teach her how to drive it properly:cool
 
I edited my post, to say older Honda's from the 90's and early 00's. Especially Civics and Preludes. Fun if you want it, not if you don't.

King of understeer = VW, Subaru, and pretty much any American sedan IMO.

Stan, you probably don't have a 930 widowmaker anyhow. The new 911s are so much more docile than the pre 1990's cars.

Ask Bill Eason, they ARE that scary! Even my non-turbo 911 Targa from that era could be a handful, it got away from me and I spun it several times at autocross events (and I owned it when I had an AMA Pro license and raced the 600 class). The new ones are so much better behaved. That said, by the time your daughter is ready to drive, she'll be in a self-driven car anyway.

They are. Modern rubber makes things worse imho. In the 930, the turbo has significant lag and it hit s hard around 3500 rpm. What usually happens is the power doubles right before the apex of the turn and the driver panics, backing off the throttle, cutting the turbo power and sometimes making it worse by stabbing the monster brakes. The front end bites, the rear lifts and comes around. Sometimes the car swaps ends sometimes it spins. Sometimes the driver gets back on the throttle, the boost spools back up and the thing jerks back around as they're feeding in opposite lock. I personally know three 930 drivers who did that coming out of the Caldecott tunnel east to west. Downhill, off camber right turn you can easily hit 110 before and then realize you're in too hot. Only one of those drivers survived


The best, most talented 930 drivers either get all their braking done before turn in, and plan the tragectory with a slight correction anticipated when the boost come on.

Alteranavily, left foot braking is employed while staying on the gas to keep the turbo spooled up but that's really tricky to learn and execute properly.

I've owned several Hondas from that era, and they're decently balanced with a moderate understeer, unless somebody has modified the suspension. Really not sure what you're talking about.

The toxicology results for all five men revealed that four of them had not been drinking. Lab results for the driver, Joshua D. Ammirato, 18, and three 19-year-old passengers, Jacob James Casey, James Devon Hime and Dustin J. Dawe, were all negative for alcohol and illegal drugs, Burroughs said.
The fifth crash victim, passenger Isaac Rubin, 20, had a blood alcohol content of .103. The tests found no illegal drugs in his system.

Around here, I don't think they teach drivers-ed any more. And judging by my kid and his friends, they don't get their licenses, or even get their own cars. He didn't even want one, he's 27 and still doesn't have a license, his older brother got his at 27. We encouraged them to get them since they were eligible, but the oldest one was working on his Ph.D, the youngest was busy with other stuff.

I got mine at 16. Bought an MGB, just like my Ducati, every body I knew said don't buy one, but I did. 3 engines in 2 years. The dealer warranteed the first one. The engine builder warranteed the second one. Both had spun bearings when I surged the oil in the pan while trying to haul ass around corners. The third one, UOP Shadow racing did the machining, I did the assembly, using Huffaker parts, high compression pistons, I ported the fuck out of the stock siamesed port cylinder head, I but I removed 1/4 inch off each wall of the intakes, it took me 3 weeks of grinding every night for hours, and supposedly had gone from 62 hp, to 120 hp, according to Huffaker using the parts i bought from them. Shadow Racing (remember the UOP Shadow Can-Am cars?) built me a baffled oil pan, I think they charged me $30 or $40. They charged me aomething like $60 to bore and balance my engine. They used to be in Marina. 20 years later, I worked for them for a while.

I'm not talking about my current 911:cool No doubt, there will be many more. I really want a 991 Targa. At the very least, our house will always have a 1000+ HP garage!
