It probably didn't happen. The power isn't really that hard to come by anymore but Anybody that's into modifying their vehicle probably puts a lot more gear into it. That and you need a decent amount of straight road to hit that too. Not an impossible feat, just not likely.
. I'm an OG around here.
Not sure I would ever spend $15K on that generation M5...Just like I passed on a beauty 911 with under 10K miles for $23K...the potential down side is so huge. If you have the $$$ to throw at these types of enormously expensive problems, you probably have the money to buy a new less problem prone car or enough sense to just forget about buying those cars altogether.

M5s of that generation in good condition with less thank 100k are going for $15k+ all day long, and have been for more than a few years. I still don't get it. Repairs will destroy your bank account.
My kids? You want a car, you buy it, you insure it, you maintain it.
Nice ride. But why is it horrible for a kid? It's not exactly fast (no offense).
Mine was a '76 Camaro with a little tail and nice tires that made it look like a Z28.
After the first year and 6 speeding tickets in my first year of college I got my license suspended for 15 days and then got a ticket going back to school (speeding) while on a suspended license.
Somehow they never tracked it down and I just got my license back in the 3 weeks.
Never crashed it... spent hours spinning / drifting practicing in those good old all asphalt parking lots of the 70's. No schrrrrrubbery! Loved to do it in the rain.
Teaching my own kids included spending time sliding their cars in the rain and a bit in the dry (now that I was paying for tires we limited how much we did when it was dry), but they learned the limits. Trying to get your "daughters so go faster just turn it and let it get out of control" took some work, but they did it. One did it with a smile. She is the best driver of the 3 girls.
Good luck 16yo.

Going back to the original post, handing down a German speed-sled goes against the current trend I've noticed of junior/little princess getting the keys to the previous gen Suburban/Denali/Escalade so that they're, you know, safe.![]()
Cool stories? Like a friend of mine catching air in his Audi 5000 and slamming down so hard it rips the exhaust system off?![]()
Ya ain't really jumping till the shock mounts get busted out of the towers.
Pretty much any vehicle with a sub 10 second zero-60 is a bad choice for a new driver.
Manual trans will likely keep their friends from getting a turn at least

My point being it's a bit scary seeing someone who looks 12 behind the wheel of a vehicle that large... but they're safe.
Zigged, when he should Zagged?

Wasn't it in tdanville where a teenage driver mowed over two kids or kids and their father, with his.. safe SUV?
I think they were on the sidewalk.
e-brake slide so hard the front tire explodes and the rim tacos in half?
my parents always used to wonder why I would drop off my car at home before going out with my friends on a Friday or Saturday night.![]()

That's 99% of today's new cars & trucks.
