WOW..... Born in the 50's or 60's

Are jarts the lawn darts that we used to throw at each other? Holy Christ can't believe they were actual toys for children. :laughing

Me as a kid:

Kids today:

Why did we ever make an effort to reduce the number of broken bones and traumatic brain injuries in children? Such a waste.

The generation who literally invented participation trophies to give to their gen-x children lol

:dunno if that is 100% true. The first record on wiki says 1922.

However, as a Little League, YMCA kids Bball and Jr High Girls softball coach I never saw participation trophies. I noted it when my kids were coaching (they still are) and I saw my Gkids getting them.

I could be wrong, but I did give out MVP & batting champ trophies to the LL kids. Repurposed from my Youth. They were based on performance.

Maybe the point of handing out participation trophies is/was inclusion. A lot of kids don't play sports anymore so if a kid signs up he/she at least gets something to take home at the end and maybe he/she will sign up again next season. Or maybe they weren't one of the best on the field but loved the sport and worked hard at it.
My son played 8 years of Little League, 4 years of tackle football on a city league and 2 years of lacrosse. Towards the end of his baseball career he was on the practice field 2-3 times per week with a game on weekends, not to mention summer baseball camps, going to the batting cage, etc.
Same with the other sports he played. He was never a standout but had his share of game balls, medals and a trophy every season to show for his hard work.

Ah, maybe the Greatest Generation wasn't so great after all! :p

I am the last year of the boomers. Also the last year was the year of the dragon. All around good vibes.

I'm about to go for a mtn bike ride and thought...

Somewhere along the way, most kids stopped putting playing cards on their spokes. :afm199

Doesn't seem anyone flips the air filter lid over anymore either.

So, time for a Sting Ray revival?

$2500, 20" Sting rays in gold and metallic green?

Before we know it, someone will put a super beefy suspension on a bike, add a 250cc gas motor and then we'll really be in the future!!!

I can't reach my back any more.

That’s why I keep a few back scratchers around the house. The one on my bedstand is used nightly as I’m going to bed. Nothin like a good scratching before heading off to dream land.
