EBR closes, files for receivership

Eric has been the most successful worst businessman ever.

There's gonna be a fire sale on the EBR Sportbikes and Nakeds that haven't sold...this is an eerie case of history repeating itself.

So Hero removed funding - would love to know the real reasons behind this... seemed like Buell has the engineering pedigree to bring their products to the US market. Maybe the Buell name carries too much baggage.

Bummed for Erik Buell. Plenty of people made big promises about building an American sportbikes but Buell actually did it. Buell raced and made racing a focus of both his efforts. And he didn't take the easy route and directly copy the Japanese or anyone else. One might say he failed. I say he succeeded doing what he loved and lived his dreams in the moto industry. Very few people accomplished what Buell has done.

Waiting for the inevitable, hate-filled, kick-him-when-he's-down Buell editorial from Dean Adams.

What does Harley have to do with any of this??

Deja' vu...? ( Buell sells out to large outfit, limps into the market and eventually has his plug pulled by corporate )

Much as I'd like to see an American sprotbike succeed, I'm just not interested in BEING the Beta tester - which many Buell customers are rather familiar with.

Very tragic... But... It's not like Eric Buell didn't know anything about how Harley did things.

^^
Perhaps.
But I was responding to Lou's comment, which still makes no sense.

im so confused as why EBR went into racing

i think the last 10 years really wrecked his ship when he tried to "race"

wtf was the point in creating the cr1190x or wahtever the fuck it was called, there was so much win with the basic lightning, cyclones, etc

ever since he tried to jump into racing the brand went straight downhill,

surprised he hasnt learned, the last vtwin that was actually successful was the rc51, inline 4 are just so much more everywhere, power, chassis, everything....

True, but his connection with Hero was supposed to give him access to a broader line of products and customers. At least on the surface, that business model made sense.
Clearly a lot was going on behind the curtain.
Either way, Erik deserves a better legacy than this. I hope there is a better chapter coming before this story is over.

Kind of explains why KTM has decided to drop it's Superbike.

Tiny market, tiny profits, lots of R&D, and no guarantee that you'll be able to beat the big dogs.

Bringing out the 390's gives you an idea that they are trying to go more mass market.

I dunno, there is that big twin with Ducati on the side that seems to do pretty well.

But, yeah. While it would be swell to have an American built racer, EBR wasn't building a competitive one. He never did. But his hooligan bikes were pretty cool. Too bad they were tied to the H.D. banner. It didn't market as well as BOTH of them expected. You had better be really good, or have a humongous history in top-tier racing to be in this market segment, or fo-get-a-bout-it.

Buell always raced going back decades. He didn't jump into it lately. I'm sure the funding from Hero was the make or break for EBR, not racing. Hero sponsored the race teams.

Can we bring that zombie thread back from the dead from last year so I can say I told you so?

So all that nonsense about a Hero-backed Erik Buell taking over the motorcycling world was...nonsense?

Shocked!

Buell had some cool ideas, it's a shame it didn't work out, again.

EBR needs to realize that hype only works in the Tech world. Not so much in the real world of nuts and bolts.

Makes no sense, if you don't know diddly squat about how anything Harley. :rofl So there is no explaining...
Ya either know , or Ya don't, from experience.

his first bike(race) the RW 750 came out just in time to become obsolete when the ama discontinued F1-he seems always to be running a day late and a dollar short.

Didn't seem like there was much of a vote of confidence among EBR employees. The ones i spoke to would say things like, "yeah X doesn't make much sense, and we all agree it doesn't make much sense, but this is Erik Buell's baby so we're gonna keep doing things his way."

I don't really understand what happened between Hero and EBR. Where'd his financing go? Maybe i should read the article first..
