Women's Handball Players Are Fined for Rejecting Bikini Uniforms
Women's beach volleyball has been there for years, women's track has become a bikini fest. Plenty of other examples where powers that be are setting rules to make their female athletes attract more male (and female?) viewers through smaller and smaller uniforms for the women. It seems to be far, far more applied to female athletes.
Thoughts? Has it gone too far? Not far enough?
Women's sports have been heading in this direction for awhile, though I haven't seen such a blatant penalty for not wearing sexy clothes.Norway’s women’s beach handball team was fined by the European Handball Federation on Monday, after players wore shorts, instead of the required bikini bottoms, during a game over the weekend.
The International Handball Federation requires women to wear bikini bottoms “with a close fit and cut on an upward angle toward the top of the leg.” The sides of the bikini bottoms must be no more than 4 inches. Men, on the other hand, can wear shorts as long as 4 inches above their knees as long as they are “not too baggy.”
