Get Fit, Stay Fit, Feel Good - 2026

omg, dude - previously said come up here and we’ll take you to our fav sushi place, but mexican? we’ve got that nailed. can either take you to an AWESOME place, or eat in. chile colorado is one of my specialties. and is absolutely heavenly, if i do say so myself.
Sounds exceptionally delicious! Both of my sisters married Mexican gentlemen. My younger sister, whose husband passed away - that man filled a room with love wherever and whenever he entered - RIP David - had a mother in law, Maria, who also regrettably has passed on. RIP Maria, you beautiful lady.

Anyway, every time I told my sister that we were coming to visit, she would tell Maria (David's mum) that Kenny was coming up. I am sure I have told this tale before, but that was Maria's (David's mom) cue to get busy with Chile verde. Oh my (expletive deleted, respect sir) God, her Chile Verde was out of this world. David's birthday was in January, and one year in Lodi it was cold as hell. Maria had Chile verde on the table, and when we walked in, David was absolutely sweating his balls off. I sat down and lost mine as well. That lady could cook, and regrettably I never got her recipe. Of course, she cooked by feel and instinct, nothing was written down. Sadly, I made a decent facsimile one time but D I D N ' T W R I T E A N Y T H I N G D O W N. Sort of like the .223 handload that I worked up once, which is a whole different tale. Sigh.......

@900ss Mexican food is my absolute favorite. Grew up in New Mexico and my grandmother’s cooking is a memory that is so firmly entrenched in my mind…it a happy place. The smells the heat, I miss that woman. My mom was pretty good at repeating the family recipes too. But like your brother in law’s family, it was all cooked by memory and sadly I have nothing to work with to recreate those masterpieces.

Speaking of being fit, my family’s food was the absolute opposite of food for fitness.

This is an interview with an iron man athlete who was vegetarian / vegan then shifted to keto / carnivore and did a 2:07 marathon with no carbs

The Genesis of my faux Chile verde was a salsa verde that I made that had poblanos, as well as a few other chiles. After tasting it I bought some pork and went to town, Man, was it good.

I put the seat down on the Surly and it was a bit comfier. I think it’s just a matter of getting it in the right position.

I’m 5wks into lifting twice a week, and a little harder than previous. The DOMS is gone. I did my hardest lifting of the block on Friday - my normal plus hamstring curls and some low back squat near my PR. I felt fine for today’s ride. I wasn’t fresh, but def zero soreness. It seems my body needs the adaptation of 2 days/wk to get past the DOMS. One day/wk ain’t gonna do it.

But the workouts continue. I’ll lift a little easier on Monday because Wed is 2x15min @ FTP. It’s gonna hurt.

The real question is - do I mount faster tires to smash a PR or KOM or two lol.

I got through 4 rounds and had to stop splitting…it’s just way too hot.
Describes my weekend. I finished mowing the yard Saturday and then used the tractor front loader as a scraper to get most of the grass cuttings onto the burn pile which wound up being pretty high the grass was tall. Sunday was moving about 100 pieces of retaining wall in prep for some concrete work. I also got in the paddle boat and put some dye in the pond to help keep the algae down. It was not as bad this weekend as I think the humidity was low and I was really trying to keep myself from getting heat exhaustion so drank a ton and when doing the retaining wall took a lot of short breaks in the house with AC. Sunday night lit the grass mound on fire and smoked a ciagr and had a delicious Rapsberry Shandy by Shiner Bock and had a long conversation with the wife about future projects while we made sure the fire didn't spread outside the burn space.

Yard is all cleaned up, so gym is back on for this week. will update as I get in some sessions.

The increase in my physical activity has made it harder for me to stay awake when I get home. I would typically just eat some more beef for energy but I'm trying to lose the last bit of tummy fat and love handles so I am powering through it (or just falling asleep on the couch :laughing )

@Sharxfan , your heat (major league) is in a whole other ballpark compared to our heat (pee-wee). That’s a solid bit of work you put in and it certainly counts as working out. Heck I’d try and milk that as a whole week of workouts.

It is hot but the humidity went way down so it was way more tolerable than it has been for the last few weeks. I do miss the dry Cali heat though.

Was out walking today and 30 minutes in started feeling dizzy but kept going for another hour then worse when I finally got home, actually had to lie on the floor. Hadn’t eaten in 24 hours which isn’t unusual but suspected that might be related. Back to normal after some chilli and chips.
Lesson is eat more chilli or chips, however needs more data to narrow down which one.
