Double Dog did you guys really make this kickstand?

You're on the right track AngelsnDevils, but to explain the bad marrage of materials farther...I'd have to do what I said I wouldn't, so I won't :laughing

And it would be useless, as well, so double won't (like Double Dare, only different) :laughing

:rofl:thumbup rather use the time to:ride

Yep. I'm doing yard work right now otherwise I'd be riding

I still can't believe someone paid money for a carbon fiber kickstand. They are wasting carbon fiber on SO many things these days. Some things it's useful. But a kickstand?

A kickstand.

Wow.

:facepalm

Well is it lighter than the orignal kickstand?

Anyway most carbon fiber except the highest, strongest, lightest grade is super cheap to make now. Cheaper than metal. I giggle when I see how much some people pay for anything carbon fiber.

so whats the best mod on your bike?

The better prepared rider.

Carbon fiber BST wheels, carbon termi full exhaust.

No, I would think it was that cheap aluminum mesh I placed over the radiator to protect the fins from getting buggered up. Or the "invisible sticker" kit also known as the tankslappers paint protection package.

Crap, you asked for one mod. That's tough to say.

Some of the bikes these kickstands would have gone on have rims worth more than a fiero. But who am I talking too, you ride an RC51. :rolleyes

Are you serious? The RC51 is a magnificent motorcycle! What do you not like about the RC51?

Adults only, please

Wow, looks like there's more composite experts out there than we realized! Out of respect for those who are wondering 'what went wrong' with the kickstands, I'll make just one post on this thread, with the facts, then we'll continue working with the actual R1 kickstand customers direct.

BARF is awesome for so many reasons, but there's always a percentage in every group, and the shelter of the internet just brings out the keyboard hero in some.....

So it was very sad to learn today that someone posted photos and complaints about one of our products before coming to us (without the facts and not actually being a customer :wtf), then everyone getting very excited with their own analysis, also without the facts.:thumbup

The OP intent obviously wasn't to solve a problem, it was to maximize damage to DD before we had a chance to solve the problem for our customers. I guess I'm old school, but I still prefer person to person exhange of concerns with goodwill to set problems straight. As adults who are into bikes and business, we appreciate direct feedback. Then we have a chance to respond and set any concerns straight…..like regular intelligent adults…..person to person…..before the shelter of the internet……

So I'm looking forward to a phone call from the OP.

Meanwhile here’s the facts for 'adults only' :)

- This was a group buy of several custom kickstand models for an R1 forum organized by one group contact.
- The deal was for kickstands in our old style (thinner, rougher, cheaper) for $190 each, so long as we had one point of contact with the R1 group to make it efficient and we had the time necessary to make new clevises from scratch (CAD, CAM and CNC machining of a small batch is time consuming and expensive).
- We upgraded them to the molds in the new style for same price.
- New style sold for $295 plus $100 for gloss coat - $395 per stand for that quality of finish.
- We didn’t have an R1 to test fitment on, but copied the OEM kickstand samples accurately…..or so we thought.....
- Length was obviously too long after fitment by our group contact (not sure how our guy made that error), so we offered to shorten that first batch accordingly, but they weren’t returned to us for modification – they were sent out to the members by the group contact.
- The second batch was shortened before it shipped, to solve this problem. It was ready to ship last week, but the group contact asked us to wait because there were other issues we might be able to address before we ship.
- We will absolutely fix the length issue with all the stands shipped, exactly as we offered weeks ago, as soon as we learned of the problem.
- It was only TODAY that we received the list of issues the group has with the kickstands. As promised, we will work through those issues and fix what we can, according to the level expected of the $190 kickstands.
- We will also add gloss coat and an extra carbon fiber layer over the exposed back, but that would be the spec of our other kickstands for $395, so customers who want that level of finish can pay the difference to fund that level of finish.
- When we decided to take on this group job, we were worried that there would be that sad 1% of every forum who would be more interested in talking tough from the shelter of their computer than working with us direct, say when they didn’t grasp why they couldn’t have a $395 kickstand for $190…..
- As a result of this experience we’ll never take a forum order again, and we’ve cancelled kickstands from production. For $395 they were marginally worth doing. For $190 they lose a lot of money and the customers don’t like the value, so looks like it doesn’t make sense for anyone.
- We want adult customers who know how to deal with people directly, with goodwill, so we’ll stick with those higher end products that we do so well, sold through direct conversations or through dealers we can trust to explain our ‘unusual’ products.
- We make these compression-molded structural composites in San Francisco, hand-finished composites take time, and we had rapid growth in the last six months, so it was a challenge to catch up with all the back orders. We apologize for any problems our delays have caused our customers. We are nearly caught up now, and cancelling all future kickstands will definitely help us stay ahead of demand in future!

So now we'll hand over to the keboard commandos to continue the fun here :deadhorse, and we'll hang out with the adults. :ride

^ nice of you to look down your beak at your potential customer base with such a pretentious reply.....:rolleyes

carbon fiber kickstands are silly...and people that buy them are silly, hence you being dealt with in such a silly manner....

COUGH.. Performance gain, or bling gain. With a kickstand? Seriously man if you're gonna roll for fucking starbucks points like that. Have a posse roll behind you and bring a ducati center stand for when you roll up. :rofl

I love blinging out shit as much as the next person. But a fucking carbon fiber kickstand? Someone's gotta be man enough to point that shit out as fucking retarded.

Dont know why you guys are bashing anything carbon. I have BST's and CMC's on my bike, and bunch of other make-lighter kit and I dont race my bike. Im just an average guy who loves his moto's & ride's it to and from work everyday as my transpo. I also don't go to bike nights or patronize Starbucks... and dont like people looking at my bike, because were I live bikes that get looked at get stolen. I also don't go pointing out my 'bling'. Black and carbon to me is the antithesis of bling. Some people like stretched out studded bikes, some of us like more purposeful exotic kit on our bikes. Some of us like riding 390lb wet R1's like myself, that feel more like 250cc into corners then a full liter bike. How we are passionate about what we ride and what we do to our bikes is our own deal. Do what you like, and Ill do the same.

To have a semi one off piece of kit that cuts over a quarter lb+ of weight is not hard to like. Plus have any of you seen what a stock steel R1 kicker looks like:thumbdown Some of you guys spend the same money at a club in one night or a couple out with the boys.

Please refrain from any bad mouthing DD Moto, especially given no one here was a member of the GB. I was. This thread wasn't even needed to be posted IMHO as it serves no purpose: DD and we are getting things rectified. We're hopeful everything gets worked out.

Ride safe guys

As a potential customer of DD I would like to say that post makes me never want to step into your store. I understand you wanted to say your side but it came off as a "better then you" post and you may want to edit it since I know you are just trying to get your side of the story out. Just some feedback from someone that wasn't involved with the purchase but instead watched it play out.

getting in a forum pissing contest with posts like that is just going to leave you covered in piss DD, just some friendly advice.

many comments from behind our keyboards are warranted due to the quality or lack of regardless of price. Do some extensive R&D and stuff like this often times can be avoided. DD pretty much earned what happened. :rolleyes

That's my view on it...and why I said what I did, replying to Gabe.

And by the tone of DD management...they have no intention of testing and proving their products themselves, before selling it...so...nothing will change.

And with customers like this one, it certainly doesn't help their image:

Really dude? You're gonna go there over a 1/4 lbs +- weight difference, and it being "one off". A paint job would run you the same price, and be one off.

The weight difference? Seriously, I could take a shit and drop more then 4 ounces, if you want a weight difference that will matter on the track. Perhaps I could leave the $1.75 of change out of my pocket. Maybe I could remove the Power Commander that weights 1/2 pound.. Shit I dunno. Maybe I should just carbon fiber everything. Then when I DO wreck my bike, I can get totally fucked by my insurance company too. :rolleyes

Now as I said, the "bling" factor. Is cool. But again I stand by my point. A carbon Fiber Kickstand? Seriously.... :rofl

...testing and proving their products themselves, before selling it.

+1

Seems to be a common opinion that carbon fiber kickstands don't make any sense, I don't get the point of a cf kickstand either. Don't track day enthusiasts just take the kickstand off their trackbikes? (that is why people use trackstands, isn't it?)

So getting out of the cf kickstand business is a good idea. But per the quoted text, this whole deal would have gone a bit differently if they'd actually borrowed an R1 to check the prototype on.
