MOTOGP 2012 Round 1 : Doha, Qatar. 4/5-4/8 2012

your the reigning world champion :|, you should know everything about your arm and how it may effect the outcome of the first GP race of 2012.

you should have done your arm pump like everybody else did :teeth

i guess the reigning world champion made a rookie mistake and forgot to get his arm pump. :wtf

if you guys watched the eurosport feed, jorge made a mad charge mid-way through the race for about 1x lap he closed stoners lead from 2+ secs to about < 1.5secs, Stoner responded immediately the next lap and raised it back up to 2+ seconds.

arm pump my ass. stoner could not keep the leaders pace, so he was able to ride 98% instead of 100% because of a arm pump.... :x

its more like, stoner thinking to himself, FUCK i should have tested out these tires on a full race distance like everybody else, now i have no fuckn clue wtf is happening in the last 20% of the race (4x laps), FUCK i need points and i cant push this tire cuz im sliding and chattering, FUCK i aint gonna throw it away and loose all my points.... and now FUCK Dani just passed me too..... :p

What you just said supports what Jacksprat already mentioned about the sector times which indicates that it was more likely arm pump than tire wear.

You don't see tires do that anymore because of the TC. Tires spinning alittle causes the whole carcus to heat up more, spinning it up a lot (a la Mccoy) heated the surface vs the whole tire.

Aint no body lighting up the rear like that anymore.

And? If spinning the tire a lot does not necessarily mean to cause the tire to wear faster, then spinning the tire a little mean what? Tire wear?

You're saying added torque and HP isn't going to effect wear on tires more? :laughing You pretty much just listed half the field already.

I get they are new tires and do fall off faster than last years.

Last year, when they tested the 1000's, not a single thing was said about the tires, because they were testing the bikes on the old rear, not the new one. It wasn't until Bstone introduced the new rear that anything has been said about it.

Just to clarify, the rear is new, the front is currently the same as last year.

It will be very interesting to see what happens when the new front arrives
It should stop Stoner from running away with the championship again, unless those bastards at Honda can fix the bike fast, or he can adapt to it. Let's hope not.

Vale didn't say anything about it massively improving anything, so we can't have any hope there, sadly.

Believe whatever you want.

so in FP2 they were talking about how they lengthened the swingarm on rossi's bike so he could keep the nose down during acceleration, and by shortening the swingarm, it makes the bike turn quicker. why doesnt cosworth or someone develop a telescoping swingarm that extends on the straight and shortens into the turns? i should be hired by honda's think tank to develop these bikes :teeth

Why do I have the sinking feeling that the new front is only going to make things worse for Rossi?

Never know, it could result in a chatterfest for everyone else but somehow I'm imagining more pain for Ducati. :(

active suspension I believe is actually specifically banned...

if you remember from a roadracing world article some time agom where they asked all the motogp teams what they would build if there were no rules, honda specifically stated that active suspension and wheelbase would be the first thing they would implement

thats stupid. traction control= go for it. active suspension=nope!

if they could not only have a telescoping swing arm but utilize magnetorheological elastomer technology, motorcycle racing would be insanely quick!

GP Racing is not moving to that extreme. We are heading in the other direction. The other side of the spectrum called CRTs. Got to contain cost.

Just some thoughts about Rossi.

1) That was the first race he's actually finished since Aragon in September 2011. That's a hell of a long time to go without even finishing.

2) His demeanor on track at the beginning of 2011 was extremely different than it is now. He produced his best results on the version of the Desmo with the least amount of his development input.

3) The pace of his rivals is much higher than his former rivals were at their best. He must know his level of riding will have to be even higher than it was with Biaggi, Gibernau, and Ducati Casey.

4) The broken leg at Mugello and the Malasian tragedy seem to have had a profound effect on him that he appears to mask with his usual jovial and care free attitude.

I don't think Valentino Rossi is washed up, or even close to being washed up, by any means. But for the first time in watching him, I'm seriously questioning his confidence. If he was somehow magically given back his Yamaha, or a Honda for that matter, do think a couple of solid wins would be enough to bounce his head back into the game? I would have said hell yeah, up until Qatar 2012.

I have no doubt that Rossi would be a different animal on the Honda or Yamaha again, but the whole field would be different if they all rode the best bikes. They were the top two bikes last year and seem to be heading in the same direction this year.

how much (NON TESTING) stoner did vs everybody else, over the testing season, stoner refused to test the bike for a long periods of time, stoner had no data to show how a 22 lap race pace would effect the tires, stoner being stoner said fuck it i can ride it, i know wtf the problem is and i can ride over it.

You're not following close enough. Stoner ran the same tires for well over race distance during practice. He just didn't do any race simulations. He knew what they'd be like at the end.

did you guys see what stoner said to lorenzo in pitlane after qualifying in 2nd?

he basically said:

jorge you got lucky, tomorrow will be a close race, but bitch im coming for you, you pulled that lap from your ass to get pole.

jorge just smirked and looked the other way.

Again, not following closely enough. Lorenzo himself said that He was riding at the limit and Stoner was walking away. He admitted that if Stoner hadn't fallen off the pace he'd have never caught him. In other words: he got lucky.

arm pump.... my ass, you guys really gonna fall for this, i expect arm pump bs from a rookie, NOT FROM the reigning world champion... common now.

Arm pump has affected every top level rider at some point. Many of them while fighting for the title. Some of them reigning world champions.

Take a minute to look up what arm pump is.

This is a listing of clueless statements. Again, just google arm pump.

There is no 'mad charge in there anywhere. In fact, there is a massive drop on lap 14. Other than that, mad consistent.

Now, that would be a rookie mistake.

What you are completely missing is that no one complained about tire wear at Qatar - not once. Even Ellison who rode the softer compound.

I always make the time to watch both Eurosport and BBC coverages of the races. The Eurosport feed keeps me entertained and engage while the BBC team of Charlie and Steve make me fall asleep sometimes. However I have to say that often Steve or even Charlie spot on get what's actually going on during the race, what kind of problems the riders are having and able to anticipate what comes next. This is contrary to what most of the people here are saying. For this, I like the BBC coverage better.

Cox and Parrish are more make up more bullshit than any other commentary team. They love hearing themselves talk so much that they will pull absurd shit out of their asses. If it weren't for Azi Farni, I couldn't listen to them.

I honestly wonder why they all just don't get the surgery

I think it is just because they don't know which arm muscle it is going to occur in. That's total speculation of course.

so if no one complained about tire wear, why did stoner's pace drop off in the last few laps? someone slip some cheese in his food before the race?

Huh? Haven't you read the past few pages? Arm pump.

Huh? Haven't you read the past few pages? Arm pump.

oh, i just took that as another one of casey stoner's bullshit excuses. REAL CHAMPIONS FIGHT THROUGH THE PAIN! *beats chest*

but for real, ive had that before and it hurts like crazy. like getting kicked in the balls but on your arm. the only times i have really experienced that is when i am out of shape and usually people that regularly work out have built up the endurance and the size of their capillaries so it really doesnt make as big of a difference. maybe what we are really talking about is stoner's complacency in the off season.
