1983 CX650 Eurosport restoration thread.

Aaaannnd the prototype bites us yet again.
I ordered Tarozzi fork tubes. Internals and fork caps didn't fit.
Huh, strange, they worked perfectly on the 1984 Eurosport. Sent them back.
Larry ordered TNK fork tubes. Internals and fork caps still didn't fit.
They were both 37mm, each tube had the correct 610mm, 620mm lengths.

Looks like we'll be sending the old bike tubes to Forks by Frank and have him make the tubes to the prototype internal specs.

I can imagine. :laughing

Bummer for sure.

Larry had an hour long chat with Frank today.
Long story short, Frank doesn't have anything like it in his log books that matched the specs.
We're sending the tubes, he's going to replicate them.
Crisis averted.
If you ever need forks for an old bike, GO. TO. FRANK. FIRST.

Going to be a little bit before another update. Larry picked up a small project, a CB750 sand cast.
Perfect timing because my wife and I got accepted into the Sebastopol Rifle and Pistol Club, and the start up dues are a bit spendy.

Another prototype weirdness showed up today. Frank from Forks by Frank called Larry.
Only one of the fork tubes has a witness line.
He asked if I wanted to have witness lines on both tubes.

My response,
"As she came from the factory.
Every single weird thing we can replicate."

Larry finally knocked out the Sand cast, and went ballistic on the Eurosport.
Pulled more parts for zinc plating:

Then, he found this, which I had long since forgotten about.
This bike went down so hard once (before my time), that it bent and scored parts deep in the instrument cluster.

Thankfully, a full cluster popped up on eBay. It's already in the way.

However, there was still good news today:
”I spent the afternoon having fun for a change. I vapor blasted all the plastics to clean them up. After each piece was done, I smoothed the finish out with a propane torch. It all looks a lot better now. Before I install them I'll wipe them down with Mothers Back To Black. Tomorrow I get to start more of the assembling with all this ready. Good Day!"

There's nothing better than the feeling of assembling clean, restored, or new parts into an assembly

Looking at the coolant overflow bottle yellowing, I decided to see if I could find a clean, white one on ebay.
Found a really nice one for $25, bought it, and realized right after I hit the pay button that I forgot to have it shipped directly to Larry. So, it's coming to me first. 😬😬
