So, I have checked the classifieds, websites, Helimot sale, all with no luck...As I was googling 2 piece suits, I came across this on Amazon and wanted to see what you people thought....

For the price, it seems like a good deal....but who really knows.

All honesty and openess is welcome

Oh...and in all honesty, I would not be planning on these for track days or the like...it would be more for Redwood Rd. Type stuff, and long rides (eg. to Monterey Bay)

I think it would be good for cosplaying Deadpool at the next comicon.

Better than paper!!!

srsly, if that's what you can afford, at least you're wearing something.

well, Deadpool is definitely better than the red power ranger...

It is kind of a toss up. In a few months, I probably could get something "worth while," but have done the jeans, riding jacket and boots for so long, that I have an overwhelming urge to do it "right," or at least as safe as possible on the "recreational rides."

It's hard to tell if it is a decent suit just from pictures. I remember a while back there was somebody on BARF selling his own branded leather suits, and (at least initially) there were many problems with his suits and he's a local vendor. So, I can easily imagine the problem 100x worse in this case. IMHO, not worth the trouble; I'd not buy this suit.

I see A*, Sainese suits on sale sometimes at around $400 locally, esp. if they were discountinued models. If budget is an issue, 'd either wait around for a sale on a good suit or just buy one of those Bilt Cyclegear suits (I think they are $400 regular price) that I can personally look and try on.

Definitely a good point. Does Bilt make two piece? eh, regardless, there do seem to be other credible manufacturers like AGV, Cortech and the like that are usually in the ballpark of $400 - $500...Definitely better to know what i am buying then to just buy something blindly....

As much as I like to bag on cheap leathers, they do at least have a high customer approval raiting. My only gripe would be you can't try it on beforehand. The leathers I eneded up buying were supposed to be for a guy 6'4" and 240 lbs. All of which I'm not.

1.2-1.3mm leather is OK. The quality of the leather is key. Double leather is slide areas is preferred if you are tracking/racing. Street use, you'll probably be OK without. Perforated arms? Seen bodies, but not arms. I would think this would weaken the suit in critical slide areas (elbow/shoulder). Hard to see the seams on the back side. These are weak points and can rip. You don't want any seams on the ass.

Modern suits that are light and strong typically use Kangaroo leather now.

If you are just riding street, and don't mind being a bit warm, these will probably be a good starter set. I wouldn't wear them on the track though as they probably use an inferior hide and will not withstand too much prolonged contact with asphalt.

There's also quality of stitching and different ways to join 2 pieces of leather. I don't know the correct terms, but there are ways to stitch such that the leater covers the stitch for higher abrasion resistance.

Thickness of leather is 1 measure, but also the differnt type of leather. Top grain usually holds up better from what I hear.

I guess I will just keep my eyes on the used or sales....There is a Helimot for $300 on CL as well as a Hein Gericke... (Love Gericke gear) for $395. If either fit, they would definitely be better options than budget suits especially with all the question and concern that could be posed from budget mail order gear

if you can go window shopping and try on different brands it will help. Not all are cut the same and will fit you a bit differently. There is nothing worse than buying leathers that cut or chaff you (around neck, crotch etc). You want something comfortable, and that you will want to wear. Get and idea for quality, weight, construction and fit before you buy. :thumbup

and yeah...cheap mail order...you will probably get what you paid for :laughing

Good luck

'Wouldn't touch those suits with a 10 foot pole. They're selling them for 200 bucks. And they're makin' a good prophet, I'm sure, so the suits didn't cost them anythere near that much. Maybe 100 bucks. Where on this green earth are you going to find quality leather, put together with quality thread and zippers and such, and done in the correct manner so the seams don't rip apart with the first contact with asphalt and pay so little for it? Nowhere is the answer. They've had to sacrifice something. Likely lots of things. And "satisfied customers" don't mean shit. They could simply be satisfied that they paid 200 dollars and got 200 dollars worth. Or the satisfied customers could be posts by the sellers.

There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. You pay for what you get. How much is your skin worth?

I have one of those suits I use it for my mini motard. Crashed a couple times with it at about 40mph in a parking lot, couple scuffs on it. Its knee pucks are really far on the side of your knee and just a thin pad for your back.

I think where the real cost cutting is in the armor, the foam insert for the back is completely insufficient, but you need to by a back protector even for the high end suits.

Really, without trying it on, you can't be assured of comfort or even safety.
