2015 Ducati Diavel Carbon - Wowzers! (Initial Review)

Minor sharpshooting....

It uses the same motor as the Multistrada and Monster 1200. The motor in the 1198 (prior to the Panigale they just had numbers for names) and the motor in the Panigale are entirely different motors.

Minor-minor sharpshooting....

The current motor in the 2015 Multistrada has the variable-valve timing system. So it's not the older engine from last year's model. :twofinger

sweet bike, congrats! it's always been on my "want to test ride" list... curious to know just how agile it can be

Bikes can be as agile as you want them to be....How they come from the factory, isn't how they have to remain....And the factory doesn't know you.
They didn't build the bike for you. :afm199

I liked the styling of this bike but it's just WAY too small for somebody that's 6'3" like me. I felt like a monkey fucking a football on that thing.

I'm 6'2" and am very comfortable on it. I think I'll eventually get a 1" higher seat for touring purposes, but otherwise it's as comfy as a couch!

Congrats on the bike
If anything could get me onto a cruiser, it would be that. Sat on one at an IMS a few years back and kinda liked it. I'm sure it hauls some ass.

I find it interesting you went with the Diavel over the Multi since you say you will be doing some touring. After six hours of riding with no wind screen I become a bitter man, twelve hours in and I absolutely hate my bike. Every rider has different tolerances though. Congrats on the new bike!

I put the baffle in yesterday, just to not piss my neighbors off.

Sorry for messing up your rights! :laughing :twofinger

Thanks man. And seriously, loud bikes are one of the main reasons for laws that restrict our right to modify and ride our bikes. Lots of communities pass laws preventing motorcycles from riding certain roads, and noise complaints are almost certainly the cause for the power sapping mapping that dips power in the 5-6KRPM range on most bikes.

Thanks for the write up. Sometimes I think I shoulda gone for the Diavel last year instead of the H-D. I know it's got some funky looks, but I like it. It's like around 50hp more and 200lbs less then the V-Rod...that's gotta be an absolute monster to hang onto in the first couple gears wide open.

Now I do have a Bell XB with a 1204cc motor with a Jardine exhaust (with baffle) but sometimes I even hate myself...

But the Ducati Diavel is THE cruiser bike that I don't understand why doesn't sell better... if I was to go FULL cruiser, it would be my first choice...

Cruisers aren't the most comfortable bikes and they aren't the most capable bikes; cruisers are an icon. They have heritage, and they have an image. You won't go full cruiser because you don't buy into that mindset.

And that leaves bikes like the Diavel, the V-Rod, and the V-Max in a weird place. The kind of folks who are open to their querkiness won't be pleased by their capabilities, and those that don't care about their capabilities aren't interested in their image.

The only cruisers that are halfway comfortable are the baggers with floor-boards, and they still lose out to bikes like the goldwing.

Are you sure the Diavel is a cruiser?

Besides being one of the quickest accelerating production bikes, it has a top of the line suspension, radial Brembos, Marchesini forged rims, 8 levels of traction control, power settings including track settings, etc...

The Diavel is a very capable bike. Its not going to set any track records but its a great balance between a standard, supersport, and touring machine.

Diavel is capable..
There was a guy at one of the coach Can's cornering days and he was definitely moving on that Stockton 99 track..

I'm not knocking the Diavel, I'm just trying to point out why it's not selling well. Personally, I think it's a much better choice on the street than a supebike, but being better adapted to it's environment it's going to make it outsell the Panigale.

Few people make rational decisions when buying a motorcycle... It's all about how the bike makes you feel.

BTW... I think your motorcycle is awesome. I really do appreciate it when manufacturers break out of the mould with bikes like the Diavel, and I'm really impressed by the package Ducati put together.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the V-Max ever since riding one. There's nothing rational about it; it's a bonkers bike with no 2-up comfort and a tiny fuel tank. But twisting the throttle just made me grin like crazy.

I think the Ducati is a great bike.

Cruiser? No.

None of the HD crowd that I know are looking to trade in for this.:twofinger
