2017 Baja Barf - its on and its happening... now!

W and I joined the group early Saturday at BOLA. Woke up Sunday to an amazing sunrise. Man oh man there is nothing that captures a BOLA sunrise!

Because we live life to make the Bossdog happy we opted to hangout together, read, and not ride out Sunday. We rode up to the Mission (San Borja) made a sweet donation to Jose, tried to fine the hot spring and rode home. Felt great to fire up the ATKs, test out our luggage system, and see how the roll up jerry cans in their custom canvas bags stayed put.

Fuel is always an issue so being able to carry 7 liters without the commitment of a hard can was great! I sewed up the bags with the idea that they would strap onto the Giant Loops. I will tweak the design before our next trip.

Imagine our surprise when we saw Lunchbox'sKTM and Bubbles back at Daggett's :wow

Sunday supper with Aaron was a delight. No CJ sightings until the following day :(

Monday was a lovely easy day including a ride out to the far reaches of BOLA. (I think Aaron got pics :dunno) We had a late CJ sighting and it was decided that Tuesday the 4 of us would caravan to Rice and Beans where Aaron's van would be left, he, CJ, and perhaps W would all ride to Mulege. W was not up for the slab and opted to roll on down to Mulege with me and the Bossdog towing the ATKs, this proved to be a good decision later.

I had noticed enormous rock hauling trucks along Rt1 since our arrival. Unfortunately we got caught behind one defending the steep pass into Santa Rosalia.

as we were following this monstrosity during a turn the giant right tires touched the pavement and I watched in horror as the load shifted!!! :wtf

Later in the trip we came across another one

DAY 07
Pretty much the last day in Baja California and no more riding. I helped EricB load up his truck and off we set back to USA. The goal was to make it to the Horsepower Ranch and then cross the border the next day. Luckily it was Superbowl Sunday the next day also so that helps too. Horsepower Ranch a famous ranch were racers stay at during the Baja races. I saw it in that Red Bull documentary Riding Dirty. So I was totally game to stay there.

Last sunrise in BOLA

Here are a few Pics that I took. I WILL take more next year! A few of them are from the Window Rock trail which may become a staple on the trip. It has a lot of narrow sandy single track guarded on both sides by cactus, so you are forced to hold your line or pay the price. I quickly found out that I need to add the plastic shields to my bark buster to keep the cactus needles out of my knuckles -ouch.
