2023 New Bikes & Updates

Curious what you all think of the Monster SP, I know it's on the first page of this thread.

I'm considering either getting the Monster SP or the MT09SP.

The guys at Monroe said they would be getting one Jan-Feb next year, I suspect with a 16kMSRP its going to be 19ishK out the door.

There's an MT-09sp at East Bay Motorsports right now but given their mark-ups its 15.3k Out the door.

What do you guys think is the better deal? Both very pricey but seems like in this market thats the going rate.

Personally i think the Monster looks way cooler, but the yamaha will probably be easier to find parts and stuff for.

I think you guys are comparing apples to oranges... ;)

I like the V4 Diavel, for a power cruiser it looks ready to rumble with any competition. What other power cruiser models are out there?

BMW R18?

These Look awesome in comparison...not that I'd ever consider that type of moto.

Triumph Rocket 3?

Personally, I'd go with the Yamaha. Fun to ride is there, maintenance simple and less costly and parts easy to acquire.
But if the positive attributes of the Yamaha bother you and have more money to burn on the bike, maintenance and really like the cred that Ducati gives when you're with other motorcyclists, then you know what to do.

I haven’t ridden an MT-09 but do have a dike with same engine as the Monster’s 939 engine, although a 5 year old version. Im not a fan of that engine and suspect the Yamaha’s is much better.
Plus I’m just not digging the new Monster styling, standard or SP.

The R18 looks like it's melting. I'm not sure I'd even want to rent one...

Rocket 3's are pretty cool, but don't they look a little like Diavels?

Motorcycles should be slim as possible. That side view is the only one that works for the R18. Viewed from any other angle where you can see those monster cylinders poking off into what would be empty space with any other bike is a really really weird look.
Looks like chromed agricultural equipment.

Daivel definitely look much better IMO.

Likely the Daivel has improved in 16 years.

They’re two very different bikes that don’t compare well with each other.
One an archaic 760 pound pig that can’t be leaned over, the other a totally modern power cruiser.
I’m not doubting your description of the R18 being a whole different feeling. Likely not the feeling I’d be looking for, but never rode one so can’t say for sure.

Well since it's your money I'm spending...I'd highly suggest a standard Streetfighter V4. Used (2021) units run around $17-18K wholesale...20's are about $2K less. That bike is insanely epic, especially the S and the SP. Sorry to be a typical BARFer and suggesting other bikes than you mentioned, but having ridden both (standards, not SP's), I'd opt up the line a tad. The V4 engine and electronics are epic, IME.

Nah, that's about the cost of some of the front running 600s in the AFM :)

Wait...I'm not spending enough! The issue is crashing them. Parts for R6's used to be easy (er) to find. The KTM's gonna be dealer sourced....and trust me on crashing. I've learned this lesson over and over and over and over....!

Don't like the Diavel V4 styling?
There are lots of unattractive bikes. But a cruiser that won't carry luggage and doesn't at least look good seems pointless to me.

In contrast R1250R will do all the motorcycle things. At least my R1200R would. And some of the ugliness added to the new R1250R is in the headlight. IIRC it just got an adaptive headlight for 2023. Hard to complain about that when riding at night and the road curves.

Also in contrast with the Diavel, the R18 looks good (in the opinion of some of us anyway), and can carry luggage if you want it to. It's not really a class of bike meant for me, but it's one of the best looking in that class.

Ducati also trotted out a catalog of Diavel accessories during the intro which includes saddlebags and fairings for individual customization... :thumbup

The R18 may have great motor, but they lose me with the 1930s styling and ugly exhausts. At least accessories cover up some of its looks. :dunno

I don't mind the 1200/1250 R styling, in spite of the headlight and info screen.

OK if it has factory luggage and factory options for a usable pillion spot the Diavel has a reason to live. In the other photos I saw it didn't seem to have enough tail for either. That engine by itself, awesome as it is, isn't enough, since it's available on other bikes.
