2025 Investment Thread

Glad to see this thread!

Today, and the last month, and more, are pretty much what I have been expecting for a couple of years. A major correction. I'm not buying anything yet. I'm over 60% cash and cash equivs now, and in no hurry. Glad I got out. I'm retired and older than your grandma.

Moderately interested in tech at some point, not yet. Big no to NVDA and TSLA. Bought a tiny bit of value today.
Are you still holding adx? I think of you every time I come across it. What were your other dividend favs?

Madness! so many people getting rich and poor at the same time. Those of you who lightened up awhile back made a good call - I can only imagine how many people are panicking right now as they stare at their 401k number going down.

Byke:

I heard you were still selling pot to the middle school kids. Can you hook me up a deal?

lol what? I think there is a joke hidden in there, but it went right over my head.

Ernie is trying to relive his childhood by pretending he is a prepubescent boy.

Well, all gains from the last 12 months erased.

What will Monday bring?

More panic selling is my guess.

How long do you think these tariffs will actually stay in place, is this an actual intended policy, or just an opportunity for those in on the grift to buy low? While things seem a little more organized than the previous round with Trump, he does tend to act and react pretty frequently, but he's also been so rah rah about this his ego might not let him change course.

The hysteresis is hard to predict. The tariffs themselves could be a tummy sticks battle that only lasts a few months, but the effects and the data that comes rolling in after that makes recovery slower. Always easy to break stuff and harder to build stuff, plus there's a whole world of unintended consequences, so keep an eye on consumer debt, because we may end up shedding more weight than currently intended.

I think their called retaliatory for a reason and everything will change when a country drops tariffs on US goods. In Thailand there is like 150% tariff on US vehicles yet all the Honda bikes are made there and sold in the US for almost zero tariff. We have been getting F'd for years.

US globalization is not about cheaper products it's about mutual defense. We aren't safer building China and Europe no longer has a military. We are no longer getting a "mutual defense return" on allowing foreign countries a chunk of our economy.

If retaliatory tariffs causes countries to drop tariffs on US products and give the same access to US companies that we give them the selloff ends, US economy grows and the US is in a much more competitive position for the next 50 years.

Do I agree with the method, NO. Do I think this is long past due, yes. But what do I know, I'm just a dude that rides bikes.

And ya, I'd like to see Corvettes sold in Thailand without a $100,000usd tariff tacked on. haha

Damn my fiscal responsibility on not buying that 68 charger a few months ago, now that money is gone poof anyway and I don't have a black on black 440 cubic inch tire roaster sitting in my garage to make the church ladies cry.

Yes, I am. GDV, VZ, GAB, PFN,PAXS.
Those last three are all 12%? They all have a downward tend, though the dividends outpace it. ADX still looks like the winner for the 12%+ and growth.

$6 trillion erased in two days, we're getting there. Another $6 trillion and it's a good time to buy.

Everything is down. And yep, they all have a high left to lower right trend, and the dividends make up for it. GAB has paid out for me super in the long run. ADX took a hit today as well, and they changed their dividend policy last year, from one big yearly to four quarterly. Still a super winner for me. All of the Pimco funds (pfn, pdo, pdi, pfl, paxs, etx) need full analysis and understanding. They're all interest rate sensitive and surprisingly, downward rates are better for them than upward. (They use leverage based on REPO (overnight) rates.

That is the dangerous part about tariffs.

If American companies start manufacturing based on these tariffs, then if they are ever take away those tariffs, then the American company could go bankrupt
