5 dead in limo crash on SM bridge

So it does appear that the doors were locked. The women were trying to escape through the little window that is up front controlled by the driver. Sad...

How did 4 of the women, and the driver get out, but the other 5 didn't? I didn't think 4 people would fit up front with the driver.

the driver said some of the women were able to climb through the partition/window to the front and escape out the front door.

i read somewhere most people die from smoke inhalation in fires, not from burns.

so i suspect the unlucky few at the very the back of the limo probably got the brunt of the smoke where the fire started and might have passed out.

the driver also said the it happened quickly less than 2 minutes, maybe 90 seconds before the entire back of the car went up in flames. if they panicked (likely), i can see them not thinking clearly enough to crawl out the front.
the other explanation is they just couldn't fit through the window to escape.

Driver doesn't need to be a hero, but smash a window for fuck's sake!

Which COULD make the fire all that more dangerous. Besides...he had a window open...the pass through window that 4 women already crawled through. Maybe the others couldn't fit :dunno

It's not a house fire. It's get out or die.

I interpreted the driver to mean the 4 crawled over the partition.:dunno

Could be right 'bout fitting though.

My sister was a parametic for some 13 years in Santa Clara. She described a crash scene to me not too long ago, where two young men were burned alive in their car. Without going into detail she says she can still hear their pleads for help and seeing movement in their vehicle in the mist of the raging fire.

So sad.

The limo was rated to carry just 8 people, not 9.

The wiring for a stretch could be the source of the fire. The stereo and lighting are going to need quite a bit of wiring. Improper installation and/or circuit protection needs to be looked at, as does the possibility of drinking/smoking/whatever.

The door lock thing is troubling.

Wen your life is on the line people tend to panic and think about themselves. Can you imagine 10 people trying to fit through a small window while trying to escape a ranging fire? The heat alone is crazy.

Geebus a screwdriver (not the wodka kind) would have saved their lives.

The video shows no broken windows with the limo only partially engulfed and no one trying to gain entry.

It's easier said than done. A screwdriver can do it only by prying on the edge of the glass using the jamb as a point of leverage.

the dying from smoke thing, i think, was referring to burning buildings.

the situation is much different in a car/limo where the fire is in a much smaller space (and heat probably much more intense).

When was the last time you had open bottles of alcohol and were actively drinking in a cab

The last cabbie I had in New York was actively taking pulls off a fifth of JB.

:laughing

That said: While the child door locks might be engaged, one of them had to have a big purse, big glass 750 ml bottle, or something. Hell, you could probably kick out one of those windows if you had to.

Still, doing so while moving might just feed the fire and make it worse. Have to time that one carefully. :(

:rose

Do you actually think the smoke stays localized? :rolleyes

It would fill the entire vehicle in the blink of an eye.

you think the folks at the back got the same amount of smoke as the folks at the front?

do you know for sure it's evenly distributed?
do you think the window at the front might have been just enough to get air into their lungs?

do you know what you're talking about?
at least i admit to not knowing instead of pretending to be a know-it-all.

yep. Those night club fires...they find the bodies stacked up like cord wood at the doors. Once person trips and the whole place is fucked. Sad

Well, I'm convinced.:teeth

Of course, I find the following equally realistic:

(Prying tempered glass is an example of what not to do.)
