7 Reasons Shoppers hate Costco

I've recently discovered a couple of places that are trying hard to take my money: K&L Wine Merchants in Redwood City has a large selection of Scotches (and pretty much everything else) that are reasonably priced - they've even got bottles with MY name on them! They will ship to California addresses for about $10 shipping charge. .

One of the very few things I miss about working in SF is being able to walk to K&L's SF store.

They have an amazing selection of single malts, and some of their private-label stuff is very interesting.

Recent Costco purchase :)

Wine club in santa clara has similar selection and way better prices.

only need one reason to not shop there.
everytime you buy something you are tracked.

That is an amazing deal for oban though. May have to renew just for that.

-I don't like the idea of a fee to in order to shop there.
-Parking lot has too much traffic
-Its too big to walk around
-Lack of generic which does not save money
-Its too far, I ride my bicycle to the store a lot, but not as far as Costco with a trailer.

I used to go to Costco in the hick town where I used to live, it was mellow. When I moved here I went to the one in SSF, one time. After experiencing that clusterfuck I haven't gone into one for over 10 years. I dislike clusterfucks.

so you'd say the difference is in the population? Do you think it's certain groups of people that make the shopping worse? Are you from Southern Texas where (supposedly!) people are polite? wink wink

We grabbed that as well; $119; save about $50.

Good deal, for sure.

Can anyone tell me if they have Johnny Double Black at Costco? Might be a reason for me to go.. for a second time in 11.5 years! (for some* reason I want it).
(* - some = I know the reason)

Jeez, how much do you guys spend on beer and booze every month? Like $500 at least?

At least. :laughing

Welcome to every big retailer :laughing

Pretty much. If you pay by CC, you'd be amazed at the info that can tie back to. So much info out there you can build a pretty accurate picture of any customer. Not really that interesting on an individual level, but very useful in aggregate, especially when combined with purchasing behavior.

Bought a set of Michelin LTX 265/65-17 (oops, 18 inch) today. $922. Big Brand American Discount Big O Pep BoysSanta Maria Tire all came in at $1100 and change. "But we'll meet and beat everybody else's price." Well, why didn't you come in at somewhere close to the price that Costco gave me? Why nickel and dime me with road hazard warranties, extra charge for tire pressure monitoring systems, and $70 to check the alignment, but not adjust it?

Lack of generics? :wtf

What do you think Kirkland brand is? :laughing

I love the idea of paying a fee once a year and having that fee eaten up by the savings we get during that year. The $55 pays for itself in the first damn visit alone. :twofinger

Plus, we have the Ex-fuckin-xecutive Black Card. We get a certain percentage (5%? 3%?, something like that) refunded sometime during the year. We usually get back anywhere from $80-$250 every year. And, if you don't get enough to cover the difference between the regular peon card and the Ultra Black cards, you will get the price difference between the cards back, $50.

you have to remember to ask for the difference back. Otherwise, they just quietly keep it.
