8/23-24 NorCal IV Epic Supermoto: The High Sierras

Geeze, so far i dont have a set of wheels. :mad
I ordered a set of Marchenisi's from that place in redwood city and they were supposed to be in Wednesday. I call thursday morning and get "uhh, i dunno, they SHOULD be in by friday". So Friday i call and i get "uhh, i dunno, IF they were ordered when you called they SHOULD have shipped this week and we SHOULD have them by monday".
Me: "Can you CHECK to MAKE SURE they are on their way"
Dufus: "Uhhh, they SHOULD be here monday"

WTF??? How hard is it to make a phone call and see when they will actually be received?
Problem is this was the last weekend i had to do any riding to sort out suspension, jetting and whatnot on the new bike. Looks like its first ride will be the 23/24.
Ok, rant over. If im not comfortable i'll just bring the CR.

Looks like alot of fun....a buddy and I will be a bit further north from you guys around these dates. We are going from marysville N of sac up into the sierras and drop back in at kings beach...one night in N lake than around the lake and back down via some road? Not as epic as your ride but hey Im happy that my wife set up this ride for me:wow I need to get her talking to my buds more often when she is drinking:laughing

CRAP! JDub and I are out. I take the blame for not being able to get the 2 bikes ready in time.

this is a sad day and a major loss :shocker

If I helped you out would that make the difference? :thumbup

it would cost you a six pack

Very cool of you to offer! Basically, I would have had to complete my prep by Friday this week. I have family stuff to do Saturday and Sunday this weekend, and work, also and family stuff Thursday night and Friday at 9 PM(which I didn't know about until this Tuesday)

Here is my list:
XR650R:
done:
*purchased sportsman brake setup for the front
*adjusted valves
*cleaned out gunk from carb
*r&r clutch(this was unexpected)
*changed oil
still need:
*buy and install chain and sprockets
*buy and install SM tires instead of knobbies(this was unexpected - I thought the ones I had would do, but after riding it around on the street a little, I realized they need to be replaced)
*if time- fix carb stumble and intermittent high idle

XR650L:
done:
*purchased chain and sprockets
still need:
*install chain and sprockets
*fix brake and turn signal lights(this just happened)
*thoroughly inspect top end. On Tues. morning when I was warming it up, there was a loud ticking sound coming from the top end, so I shut it down(not wanting to make the damage worse). When I went out that night to try to figure out what the noise was, it was gone. I am guessing it was the auto-decomp mech stuck or something?? I had an xr350l that had a problem with a rocker and the sound was similar, so I didn't want to just run it.
So- some stuff came up that I wasn't expecting and it shot my whole schedule. I am really bummed about this!

updated with day 2

240 miles

I still have to figure out the gas stops on this day. The roads will stay the same, but the order may change a bit.

This ride looks like real fun :thumbup, I've done lots of trail/mx riding in the past but have been mostly street/track for a few years now. Got tarded about 1.5 back but haven't run street tires on dirt.

Was thinking, anybody down for a "pre" epic ride? For some of us folks who really want to go, but want to be sure the "skills" are still there before slowing the whole group down on such an amazing ride...I need to shake the cobwebs loose :teeth

I was just camping near grover hot springs two weeks ago and the whole time I kept telling my g/f how much I wanted to be on the bike. :ride

there are gas stations in Markleeville, Silver Fork (between White Hall and Kyburz), Kirkwood (87 grade only), Meyers (that's where I work :D )
do I see a Packsaddle Pass there? NICE
wrights lake rd to ice house - paved route or dirt?

I've never ridden wrights lake, but it's showing as paved on my map. Should be nice and goaty.

Any good places to eat on that stretch of 50 between ice house and tahoe?

If you have decent experience riding dirt, you should be fine. It may take you a few miles to get comfortable with the traction level of the street tires, but you should be able to figure it out quickly.

In Meyers 89/50 there is a Mexican place, pizza place, 2 small diners and a deli

Wrights Lake rd is paved, there are 2 choices to go from it to Ice House rd:
dirt

paved, nice and bumpy which I prefer
