95 mpg

http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Electric-cars-battle-for-hearts-wallets-4286781.php

'North said he drove his Leaf for two years, about 1,000 miles a month. "I have not taken it in for a single service in those two years," he said. "You can fit the entire cost of ownership, lease, service and fuel into the fuel bill of any other normal car."'

Apparently the guy has a lease on it for $200/mo or less. The leaf certainly has more limitations on your driving habits, but if you're married and a two car household, with one spouse who has a predictable and relatively short commute, it makes complete economic sense.

Well to be fair, a lot of drivers don't take their cars in for years...at the least, hed need an alignment. Typical greenies!

I've owned my Leaf for one week now, and have just exceeded what would have been a full tank of gas's worth of miles (~320). It would have cost me ~$70 at today's gas prices to fill up my previous car (Dodge Magnum).

at the rates PGnE gave me, including stopping by a charging station close to work that didn't cost me anything, I spent approximately $4 in electricity.

one week. ~$65 gas savings.

so yeah, I'm loving it.

also, yes my family also has a 'primary' car to get us up to Tahoe and such. that was a big reason why I was able to let the Magnum go without worry.

Good timing, gas prices aren't going down for a while..

$70 for a mere tank of 320 miles is a lot. ... Other cars with better pertank prices have existed for many years.

Cost per tank is meaningless across different cars. For example, my Z3 has a 13 gallon tank, and my F150 has a 37 gallon tank.

Differing costs and ranges for a tank. 30mpg with the Z3 and 15mpg with the F150

No, I said tank of 320 miles... Many cars adjust their tank size to the mpg , so the 320 miles is the important part. If the tank empties at 320 miles for different cars.. Them you can say per tank of 320 miles ;) only $40, back to what I said.

Hell, if we wan't to start bragging, I have done trips out to Colorado on 700 mile tanks with 10 gallons.

Here is a pic on the way to that:

went to pick up my Helimot last week. Concord to San Jose at 50 to 55mph, was able to stay in lean burn most of the way...... averaged an amazing 68mpg... with further aero mods, i expect to be able to average above 75mpg on the freeway at such speeds..

just sayin' ....

granted there was some 'cheater' drafting and 50 to 55mph is insanely slow, but still, 68mpg in off the charts insane for a 1.6L non-hybrid :loco

:teeth

What Charlie doesn't mention is that he pushed the car up the Sunol grade and then put it in neutral and coasted all the Auto Mall Pkwy exit :laughing

Started the hill at 60mph, slowly lost down to 50mph as i crested. behind a truck part of the way... .

shut the stupid engine off on the way back down - and yeah - coasted all the way to Automall :teeth

tho u didnt hear that i coasted down a hill, Mr. Ossifer; cuz dats dangerous n' stuff :later

if i coulda pushed it up the hill - i woulda - just going up the damn hill cost me over 5mpg over the whole trip! :laughing

and hey Thaukin - was that you on hwy24, under the sign, on the connie14, pleasant hill exit just past Lafayette, radaring people going down the hill from Walnut Creek into lafayette- yesterday around 3:30pm? damn good hiding spot! didnt even see the LEO until it woulda been WAAAAY too late - good thing i was going my regular slow-ass freeway pace in the civic - and thats a regular fishing hole so us locals know 'bout it

Humm, I bicycled from Portland Ore to Guatemala and back, burning no gasoline what-so-ever.

Sweet. The most bicycle touring that I have done is mountain biking the Kokopelli trail from Fruita, Co to Moab, Utah with extras for a total of 170 miles over 3 days. It was a supported tour, but the terrain was every rough and EPIC. Both Fruita and Moab are mountain bike Mecas.

I do a lot of bike commuting also. The bicycle is the ultimate green vehicle. I would buy a EV, but if I really want to get my oil use down I could just ride my bike wherever it is easy to and drive the rest.

Love, LOVE, LOVE That part of Utah...So much solitude, the forces can talk to Ya. :thumbup

Yes-the bicycle, and all goods bought, used, and consumed on that journey were all delivered to wherever you got them from on horseback.

The farrier for those horses used a hand drawn cart.

Actually....Your pretty damn close, on the Bicycle part, a Mondia Swiss race bike/ Campagnelo everything/and prepped with Swinn touring tires/rims, ChromeMoly hand made racks and 18 speeds, high only useable on long mountain down hill grades...:laughing Not that I'd go into that country now,...When I did, and buying fruit and fresh squeezed juices from street venders...where everyone is dirt poor...

But if you are trying to be a crazy person that doesn't know diddly because You didn't do a trip like that...I wouldn't want to change your mind :laughing

Just pointing out that directly or not-you burned gasoline. No one cares.

What steering damper did you have on the bicycle?
