AB1371 - Another victory the spandex squad

BTW, those of you who don't think there are tons of spandex cowboys on $5k bikes on the roads around here - have you been shopping in a bike store lately? The entry level even remotely decent/serious road bike starts at around $1,500 and that's for a mass produced stamp out high volume seller model. The roads in my town are littered on a Saturday or Sunday with high dollar $3k+ bikes.

On a related note, I've never once had an issue with a cyclist around here, other than the random asshat who blows a stop sign or light once in a while and almost winds up under my car.

3 quarters in a year? Don't they teach math at Stanford? :teeth

He and you are both correct depending on how you look at it.

He's correct because typically for quarter-term based colleges, most students only do autumn, fall, and spring. Summer, regardless of system is typically not included because students (most of the time) aren't offered financial aid, if they are, it's being taken out of the other terms.

Your correct because well....there is a summer term so it really is 4 quarters.

:twofinger I just KNEW someone would find one. :laughing

...Your argument is a lot like the "roads were designed with LANES for a reason, motorcyclists should stay in them!" arguments that drivers sometimes use and makes about as much sense to me, which is to say I don't think it makes sense.
It most certainly is not. The biggest point of my concern for everyone's safety here is speed. A bicycle just simply cannot achieve the speeds at which a car or motorcycle can. Whether its accelerating or decelerating. It's not safe for the bicyclists or motorists to have them on the roadway. Like I said before, whether it is legal or not, stupid is fuckin' stupid.

Entitled pricks are dangerous on motorcycles. Time to hand in your keys.

So what you're saying is, we already have appropriate laws in place to govern where and when to ride a bicycle. Great, glad to hear you've changed your mind! :rofl

Jesus. The level of hypocrisy and failed connections in your 'arguments' is staggering.
That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying they should not be allowed on ANY roadway that does not provide for ample space to have a designated bicycle only lane. That is out of concern for everyone's safety. The laws we have on the books now are dangerous IMHO.

And quit passing your opinions about my thoughts off as facts about my statement.

You're showing your age. Sharing is not part of the young buck's vocabulary.
Two sides of the same coin?

YOUNG BUCK: "Hey you speedbump, GET OUTTA MY LANE!"

OLD FART: "Hey you kid, GET OFFA MY LAWN!"

:rofl

IMHO, riding faster than your safe sightline is fuckin' stupid. =)

If you're riding within your safe sightline, bicycles (and stopped vehicles, downed trees, standing animals, et cetera) are pretty much a non-issue.

There's a person on that bike. He or she is a person with a wife or husband, maybe kids, they pay taxes probably, even a good possibility they pay more taxes than you or me, perhaps they're even a lesser burden on the economy than you. They probably don't smoke, maybe don't even drink. Maybe they're even *gasp* motorcyclists as well that realize that cycling is a great way to stay fit for track days.

I can give a cyclist a 3 foot bubble as I pass 99% of the time without even thinking about it at all on my bike, and often even in my car.

The passage of this particular law has no effect on me because it's reasonable, albeit unnecessary for several reasons.

You get respect when you give it. I'll give respect on the road all day long even if NONE if it comes back to me because I know that if I do that, the respect will come back to SOMEONE in some way eventually, and maybe that might even save a life or prevent grievous injury. Sure it's not going to make a callous driver suddenly act saintly, but maybe if that 30th motorcycle didn't buzz him in the split at 75 mph while he was stuck in traffic he won't decide to be the metal missile when the 31st bike comes along.

Of course there are going to be utter and complete assholes on bicycles as there are on sportbikes, but I don't understand the conflict; on a motorcycle, you have EVERY advantage over a bicycle, why must some riders feel like they have to exercise ALL those advantages ALL of the time EVERY time? I have no problem giving the cyclists their occasional victories even when they can sometimes be asses about it. In street traffic, they already have few to none, while as motorcyclists, as long as you're not plain stupid, we're kings of the road!

I'm glad you pointed that out. So many people get caught up in discussion/debate that they forget we are talking about other human beings.
