AMA/DMG/Manufacturers 'Sploding

^^They're probably hoping for American Gladiators on motorcycles.^^

250 ninja spec class in AMA.

:wtf

As far as the spec tire deal. I wonder if it will be one supplier for all classes or will they have one supplier per class?

I would guess one supplier per class. I believe they hinted that they want all of them to be a part of the series, probably so they can collect a check from each manufacturer. :laughing

I dunno, the interview published today on superbikeplanet with Bill Syfan and Colin Frasier gave me a little more hope that these guys aren't completely insane. The part that still bugs me is their insistence of including Moto-ST instead of keeping 600 Supersport. I don't know about the rest of you, but watching an endurance race with 75hp rollin' turds doesn't get my blood going. A 220hp "Literbike" DOES! :thumbup I personally think it's a mistake to try to promote the series based on lower hp machines. Can you imagine NASCRAP racing Miata's?? :rofl

This is an interesting question: is too much performance that isolates the top top top talent bad for the show? Probably not in the sense that DMG is talking about. The purists in us certainly want the answer to be no. On the other hand, I've lately been thinking of buying a built CB350 and go vintage racing for a few seasons to take the edge off the expenses and stresses of trying to keep up with my 600. By all accounts, mortals are able to race vintage bikes a lot closer to their limit than a modern sportbike. It's definitely big fun to do it, and it actually isn't bad to watch, from what I've witnessed. Here's a friend of mine doing his thing at Summit Point. I think watching low hp bikes with lots of people pushing them hard will be fun. But what do I know?

Really? I would have thought that this would have pissed you off:

You see it with all kinds of racing, but particularly high-profile stuff like MotoGP and Formula One in the old days, that a tire war is a terrible thing in terms of controlling speed. There's no amount of rules restrictions that can fight back a really sincere, hard-fought tire war.

It seems to me like they think that the answer to improving safety is not to fix tracks, but to retard tire development.

cars and bikes are faster than tires can handle.tires are just trying to keep up with technology.
fixing tracks is the answer.as speed goes up so it should run off.it is easier to fix tracks than to stop technology.

To quote that superbikeplanet dealio:

FRASIER: Well, I think there were sort of three things on the plate going in. There was MotoST, which is established. There was Daytona Superbike, which has been discussed within the confines of Grand-Am, and with Roger and Daytona International Speedway for quite some time, that kind of format, and with some of the track owners. And then there was the idea that probably some kind of liter bike would be necessary, because liter bike sales are very important. Ironically, one of the manufacturers today reminded us that they actually would have been okay with a more conservative liter bike choice than the one that we went with.

end of excerpt:

Moto ST is established? It is brand new and not huge so it is new not established... Daytona SB? Not sure on that all of us who are SB in AMA will be running turds on wheels...? We will not be elligible for Daytona SB it appears. And the only think the factories want to be in the liter class... they are forcing peoples hands her and come in and just doing stuff... What about making better racing with what the RACERS want and make aplan after you see what they want... I wanna ride 600's but looks like that WILL NOT be a opten in or for 09.

C'mon, you guys don't really buy this "tire parity" bull$hit, do you??? :laughing The tire companies will write a biga$$ check to DMG and ALL the racers (including factory riders) will pay full pop for the tires as the tire manufacturers try to recoup some of the money they had to pay DMG. You guys don't really think WSBK came up with Pirelli "spec tires" just to make the racing "better", do you?? They're laughing all the way to the bank and the riders are writing the checks for tires. It's a simple reallocation of budgets - instead of sponsoring teams/riders, the tire manufacturers write the check to the race promoter (DMG, WSBK, etc.) Either way, the tire companies get the advertising they want. I'm a nobody in the grand scheme and have no idea what any of the tire manufacturers will be willing to pay, but I did see a quote that Michelin US is putting something together. I'm sure Dunlop and Pirelli are too. At the end of the day, DMG gets more money in their bank account and the riders pay more money out of theirs. DMG wins, racers lose. The fastest riders will still win no matter what.

Spec tires are a farce. It's an excuse for race promoters to cash the tire companies' checks under the pretense of creating "parity".

YEs I think Alex is correct here.... and I qoute.... look up again... Wish we knew how to contact DMG to talk some sense into them... shaking a dirty rug to clean it is cool as your ready to get dirty... Seems they are just doing stuff without much if any thought into it... Why just drop supersport and superstock and keep it called Superbike and Formula Extreme? And they add whatever goofy ass classes you want after that? I mean come on... Daytona Superbike and Literbike? Come on...
