American Rider Missing in Mexico

My heart goes out to his family and friends. I'm wishing for his safe return.

Ugh... Absolutely awful!

"Body was found in two plastic bags."

"No cause of death has been reported."

I'm pretty sure when a human goes from being in no plastic bags to being in TWO plastic bags it's going to cause death.

This outcome is the absolutely worst case here. My heart is so heavy for him, and the horror he saw.

RIP rider...

And this is why I've abandoned my dictator tour of South America.

Terrible news, but at least their search is over. Condolences to his family and friends.

Ugh. Hoping that there will at least be some closure for the family. :|

:rose Godspeed Harry

So sad to hear this. Traveling the world is an adventure and sometimes has the ultimate price tag.

Condolences to family and friends. Hope the memories of Harry stay strong in your hearts.

Mexico or America, riding alone has its particular risks. He might of just ran off the road like people here in the US do too. :(

Solo riding, while dangerous, also has its charm.

Good luck rider. Hope you are still here.

Shit do happen.
Was followed, then chased for about 30 miles by some crazy MFs in Oregon back in the 80's. I was able to outdistance them on a mountain road, but it was not a picnic being pursued by maniacs on a road I had never been on. Makes my heart beat fast just remembering it.

Mexico may have it's charm, but the past decade has been a rapid decline. So sad.

edit: Seeing the news article about Harry Devert brings up a lot of things, none of them good. The lawlessness in Mexico has really gone from occasional to sickening. For years I spent the Winter months fishing and dirt biking in and around the Jalisco and Colima coast, and now I doubt that I'd venture outside of a few towns I know really well. As long as you stayed out of known shitholes, like Culiacan in Sinaloa, there weren't too many risks..

My sympathy to Harry's family.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends. From what I have read about Harry and his travels, I would have enjoyed meeting him. Great spirit. I am sure he touched many people.

I have also been hoping for these past months that he or his body would be found and the cause would have been an accident. I'll still hold out for more information, but it doesn't look like my wishes will come true. It wont change my traveling habits or love of Mexico. Gods speed Harry! :rose

This sickens me. My heart sank when I read the article. I don't want to imagine what Harry went through and I feel deeply for Mr. Devert's family.

Accidents are one thing, but when you loose someone to a senseless, selfish violent act there's almost never closure.

Just wipe out all of the idiots....once and for all. UGH. RIP rider.

lets see.
white gringo in a very very bad part of the drug cartels area of what was once mexico,
on a moto no protection. no contact.

ether holed up, held in a cave, or dead.

all three choices are bad.

.

Well, I think the guy is just another average adventurer that is doing something I have wanted to do for years now. Hell, I even bought the R1200GS precisely for the purpose of retracing Che Guevara's route through South America. I will do that and more. Hopefully around the world.

I wish him the best..

Damn, I just read the article. Sucks to see it go that way. He was too brazen in his pursuits of excitement and it cost him his life. I would do this kind of tour but only by sticking to the main toll roads through Mexico and beyond and only veering off with previously known trustworthy people.

Godspeed in the afterlife Mr. Devert.

This. I'm simply not brave enough to travel to countries where human life has so little value to so many... I feel so bad for his family, and how terrifying the end of his life must have been... :(

RIP Adventurous Rider... :rose
