^^ Saw that vid on facebook. What a tool. He let off 3-4 rounds hella fast, barrel dipped, went through hood and into fender.

Pretty sure this is the story where one pilot landed one of the planes.
The other had to bail.

Yes, I just don't know what caused the collision. I read several reports on the accident but none mentioned what exactly happened. I never saw (or was aboard) any formation aircraft that got into those positions.

It appears to be absolutely pilot error but which one and how/why?

The failure of the pilot who was flying the trail airplane to maintain separation from the lead airplane. Contributing to the accident was the inadequate pilot training for formation skydiving operations.

Yep, trail plane pilot seriously blew it, should never have gotten into the position he did (above and drifting into the path of the lead plane).

Damn lucky nobody was killed.
