Annual Newbie ride, 2009 (Sat, 4/25)

Yeah- you need to get out and be more involved in group rides their ya newbie! :laughing

24 groups, with about 8 riders/group (as of sign-up close). Math says it'll be over 190 riders forming the total group on this ride; taking on the goaty backroads in the SC mountains. Many for the first time. Going to be a challenging day!

A little big, and a little too challenging, for my personal group ride lead experience/comfort ........... so sitting this one out.

Wishing for a safe and successful event for Mike, the lead/sweep volunteers, and all the newbie riders in attendance. :ride

just so everyone knows, Rob (Bobby) is one of my kids. he's fine. though he was being an asshat and he went down.

no breoken bones but some good rash. he didn't listen when I told him to buy boots or leathers.

if anyone needs more info you can PM me. but he's fine, he's hurting but he'll be fine.

too bad they can't cure stupid... I just hope he can learn from his mistakes.

wishes for a quick physical recovery for rob, emotionally as well if you are in fact his father.

one down in group 15...

At least he was well-geared :) Good riding with you, your SV is, I must say, among the hottest I've seen.

besides that, great ride. thanks to Mehdi and KB for leading/sweeping. :thumbup
Big ups.

Thanks to all who made this ride possible. Great times!

Thanks to Sivan our lead and Doreen our sweep...Group 20.

Ride safe everyone!

***Pics are up in the Moto Photo section.

His name is Robert, if we are talking about the same guy but he was wearing converse and had long hair and was on an old dark 250 Ninja. I really hope he's not seriously injured.

I even asked him if those were his riding shoes, I felt telling him he shouldn't be out there with those on was too forward. Dammit!

You know I noticed a few others wearing converses too, which made me worry for their safety. I figured, to each his own on that one. Really sorry to hear and hope his feet and ankles are ok.

reppin group 7 btw! I felt we were going way slow at times.. even slower than posted limit, but the plus is, no accidents :D

I saw multiple people in Tennis shoes. I just have stopped bothering to tell people, because for some reason they think they're right and won't listen.
It takes learning the hard way for them to learn.

no my rectifier was fried so it wasn't chargin the battery, so i couldn't get it to start, jump start, push start, tried them all, so i sat in Mike's truck half of the way, i finished in spirit! thank you mary for sticking with me while the truck arrives and i think was Dmitri? helped me push start the bike...like 10 times, haha all were tired, overall great ride, i should have taken my gixxer,. next year it is!

Hey Paul. nice meeting you.
Yeah, it happened at Cycle Gear meet up this morning. Were you there? And are you riding tomorrow? Me, another guy named Allen, and I think Jake will be going.

Fun little ride down 9 after 4 Corners, but I was itchin to pass the yellow Katana at a certain point :p

Hey barfers. This is Robert the kid on the 250 who crashed today. Im "Ok", im deffinantly stable, never passed out, remember the entire event. I have 2 badly sprained ankles (never wearing converse again for riding, lesson learned) some good road rash on my knee, toes, right ankle, and right forearm. But other then that im ok. Im really lucky, and am thanking God that im alive.

I was heading up 17 towards san jose, had just gotten off of 1. I was going fairly fast, deffinantly faster then i should have been going. I split lanes a few times and came up to attempt to pass this silver SUV. well the SUV sped up and i lost my opportunity and made the mistake of being the newbie that i am, and locked up my brakes, i fishtailed, went into a slide, bounce and eventually roll. when i stopped i was completely aware of what had happened and tried to stand up. immediately upon putting preasure on my foot, i felt a sharp pain and fell to the ground.

Ive taken from this that i need to know when to play around and when to just be riding home. I will be back on the road when i am healed up in a couple months and i will imply the lessons threw pain that ive learned.

Thank you all, had a great day on the newbie ride, not so great on my way back. ohh and the bike is a VTR 250 1989.
