Any updates on Joy Higa's and Brant Wiwi's condition from race crashes?

I can see why you were at a loss for words in the booth when that happened Brian. Jesus that looked bad. Glad everybody's alive, if not well.
 
I ended up getting the whole sequence in still pics from the second floor of the media center.

This one I found pretty interesting. :wow

Would be interesting to see a couple of pics before this to see what causes the bike to be leaning right and the riders right leg to be dragging? Wheelie gone wrong?

I too would like to know what to "thank" for the demolished bike and what the Dr. is telling me is likely a broken vertebrae. :thumbdown Off to more x-rays in a few hours - really hoping I won't be out for the season.
 
what the video doesn't show is Joy being slammed up agaisnt the wall, sliding across it for about 20 ft with her between the wall and her bike, then falling down onto the track out of sight. I am seriously surprised that her injuries are not more serious.

My wife Claudia saw the choas in the infield. One of the riders (motomatthew maybe), t-boned joys bike, went over the bars and landed on his head. She said this riders neck and head bent backward in a very unnatural and scary way.

that video tells alot. Looks to me like Joy got a good start and was squeezed between Gabe and Eric, made contact with Gabe and they both went down. Not much I could see that was at fault. Gabe didn't say he missed a shift or anything, just looks like he got a slow start maybe?

I'm relieved it wasn't any worse. Gabe and Joy are cool people.

That was (likely) me. I saw some bike (joy's?) shoot out at me from the right, tried to slow down (doing a rolling stoppie), but it hit my front wheel and I went over. Some other bike - not the one I T-boned - landed on top of me after that. While I was rolling around. I have no idea where that bike came from. The nice gentleman in the white and red leathers was kind enough to remove it for me.

edit: NM I need to look closer.

Anyhow it was just brutal to see up close and personal.
 
Glad everyone is basically OK! Like Ken, I've been in all kinds of screwed up situations. I've had a stuck throttle(Talledega,89') and no brakes(Sears Point,00'). The former was at the start of the race(I went from 10th row to first into the first turn), then off into the grass(luckily I didn't hit anyone) pulling the clutch, locking the brakes,releasing the clutch, smoke pouring off of both wheels, pulling the clutch, missing riders, it's friggin' terrifying! Every time you pull in the clutch the thing redlines and sounds like it's going to blow up. The kill switch won't work at redline. I got it stopped(with the clutch pulled). With those old bikes, I could reach in and pull the plug leads(and electrocute myself). The bike slowly died, and yes I burned my hand. The latter (brake failure) didn't end as well. In 89', I had a lot more time and room than wiwi had. In my opinion there'd be no way to save a stuck throttle going into 10 at thill. As far as the start of the F1 race, we've all seen the best riders in the world pile into each other at the start...racing is hairball! Hope you all are back soon!

It happened to Simon Williams too at Thunderhill on his Ducati back in '06, scary. Heal well everybody!

I had a similarly terrifying experience a few years ago going backwards around thunderhill. I was going into turn 6, prepared to squeeze the front brake and ... nothing happened. It took just a little bit before I even realized what was happening. I decided to ride it out, made it through the fence and over a small drop-off before I ditched the bike. I was worried that the front of the wheel would catch in a ditch by the transition up the hill.
