Barf Slow Your Roll" Lane Splitting Campaign

i drove to work the other day. While I was sitting in traffic, this rider on a big adventure bike with aluminum panniers on each side was splitting.

He got to a narrow point, for his bike, and could not go any further. So here he is sitting blocking the lane for any other splitters coming and one car saw him sitting and tired as best they could to give him room, even though traffic was stopped. Lucky, the traffic started moving and the situation cleared up.

Now, my seca could of made it through as well as few other bikes and scooters.

Maybe there needs to be a law about what bikes can lane split? Just for the safety of the rider and to promote a better imagine of motorcyclist.

Please no. This is a subjective thing. Maybe he was just being cautious. You aren't really going to say you have never reached a space you couldn't (or didn't feel comfortable enough to) split through??

I know my bike won't fit, or sometimes I don't want to risk a split through some spaces some smaller bikes can fit through. I also know it sucks to occasionally get caught behind a whale. I usually try to go around though.

I think he's trolling with that last post.

Wait-the guy stopped up the room between the cars and your seca could still fit through? You must be one hell of a rider.

Interesting. I like the thanks for sharing idea a lot. The slow your roll might be difficult to encapsulate in a iconic image. I will think about some ideas.

Budman, let me know if you need help with designs, or shirts. I would be happy to help. I got the pride tshirts printed for a great price. :thumbup

you're welcome. :twofinger

From what's showing up in this thread, I like "Sharing is Caring" as a slogan and the Delta 15 as a logo. I think they can compliment each other and work well: "Sharing is Caring" is readable / understandable by cagers and the Delta 15 is understandable by the riders.

Neon green vests with the slogan printed above the logo (on the back of the vest) makes it much more noticeable for everyone. Simple neon green arm bands (with no printing) or neon green slip-on sleeves on the left arm would then be reminiscent of the vests for those who don't want to wear a vest.

"Pinching is Grinching"?

"Blocked is Focked"?

"Moto-hating is like masturbating: - It makes you feel good and but nobody else wants to see that."

Agree. There is a lot of this on barf and in the rest of the business world. P.R. is tough. It's not about your feelings, it's about what you want to obtain.

HeatXfer, I don't understand your reply to me.

... P.R. is tough. It's not about your feelings, it's about what you want to obtain.

Exactly. I know I want to sway public opinion about lane-sharing and I want other riders to help make that happen.

I'm SO on board with this. I've always stuck to a delta of around 5-10mph and I tend to merge back into traffic pretty early - at around 30mph.

Whenever I hear someone whinge about some idiot lane splitting too quickly for traffic conditions, I always make a point of saying that - as a motorcyclist - I think they're being an idiot. But I also add that for most of us sensible riders, lane splitting properly is safer for the rider and better for the drivers out there because we're not causing congestion. I hope to do my bit to change the perception of members of the public.

I never split over 30 mph and I always stay within the 10 mph delta. Are the chp guidelines still available somewhere and can they still be distributed legally as suggestions only for safe splitting? I will display the stickers when they come out too.

just an idea...

I think a lot of people will interpret that as don't split over 15mph, not the message we want to be sending. The triangle for delta is going to go over the heads of anyone who doesn't know all about splitting already.

I support this campaign 100%.

In the past I've been part of the "Why bother?" crowd. The usual rationalizations like: It won't make a difference; The worst offenders don't read BARF; ad nauseam. That's changed.

We're being attacked. If we don't take a stand, the decision will be made for and in spite of us. Sharing, splitting, whatever you want to call it is such a convenience. Can't fathom loosing the privilege. Regret sucks. Be part of a solution. Spread the word. :2cents

I know I slowed down a bit after reading the guidelines, so it does make a difference.

The whole slow your roll thing is not a public awareness campaign. It's a small sect of riders complaining to others.

No one in a car is going to understand a logo like this:

I think the approach of a "Thanks For Sharing" campaign with a good logo will go a lot further towards creating goodwill and awareness. Get a website on there and drive the interested to it, where a 15 mph delta is advocated and explained.

And I mean no offense to the creator of that logo or others.
